The Arrow-verse Trinity
I know it has been only a few months, but do you plan on continuing this story? Again, no pressure :)
I am, but I’m currently preparing for a new job I’m about to start soon. Once things settle down and I have some free time again, I’ll start writing once more.
Will To Hell And Back Continue or is it just dead now?
I can’t believe people are asking this question after only a couple of months. Of course it’s alive, I’m just on break, doing other stuff! I’ve had hiatuses on this story way longer than this, you know!
New Images
You might notice the new header image on this blog. Well, my good friend greensirencanary (who has tumblr here that I forgot to ask the name of) created three posters for this story at my request. One has been posted on the AO3 version in the first chapter, one will be the thumbnail for the FFN version, and the last has been used as the header of this blog. I hope you like it!
NaNoWriMo Has Begun!
And that means so has the writing for To Hell and Back!
To elaborate, National Novel Writing Month (more colloquially known as NaNoWriMo) officially began on November 1, as it does every year. And, if you read my other story the superhero game, you’ll know that I’ve selected to write Arc V of To Hell and Back for this year’s NaNoWriMo.
Thus far, it’s going well. It’s November 5 now and I already have four chapters completed, with 11,000 words in total. For those unaware, the goal of NaNoWriMo is to write 50,000 words by the end of November. That mean’s I’m already one fifth of the way through! Of course, chances are Arc V is going to exceed 50,000 words, but that’s still quite a lot of chapters.
When I complete NaNoWriMo, I’ll begin the editing process for those chapters and start posting. According to the NaNo website, I could be done by November 20 if I keep up my current rate, so consider that a tentative date for now, though not a guarantee. Either way, however, you have quite a lot of material to look forward to!
In the meantime, if you’re still hungry for something to chew on until the updates begin, I have a few suggestions. The first, of course, is that you re-read the story again so it’s fresh in your mind. You could also update the TV Tropes page in the mean time while you’re at it. I’m sure there are plenty of things in the story that haven’t been covered in the tropes page yet.
The second is that you read my other major stories. My Jason Todd Peggy Sue series could use some love as well. While the first story, one day at a time, is a more wholesome story that focuses on the Bat-Family (conspicuously the one DC Superhero family that will not be represented in To Hell and Back), the second story, the superhero game, is a more wide-spanning story that brings in almost all of the major heroes of the DCU. It also shares more similarities with To Hell and Back. Both stories haves TV Tropes pages as well, if you’re into that.
The third option is to read some recommended stories. I know I’ve recommended ArlyssTolero’s Arrow: Rebirth series more than once, and I’ll recommend it here again. Arrow: Rebirth also has TV Tropes page. There are other writers I’d recommend too: Lyco (primarily on FFN), RayWritesThings (a very prolific Lauriver writer on AO3), and Okori-Prime (another Lauriver writer). ArlyssTolero also has other stories besides Arrow: Rebirth that would also fit your tastes, especially if you like Lauriver.
Well, that’s it for now. Look out for the next updates! And if you’re a writer, I highly recommend trying out NaNoWriMo! It’s a lot of fun, and you get a lot of goodies if you win.
The Hartley Sawyer Situation
As no doubt many of you have heard, Hartley Sawyer, the actor who plays Ralph Dibny on The Flash, has just been fired for extremely offensive tweets he made back in 2014. Now, while I haven’t seen the tweets personally (and have no intentions on doing so, because it’s not going to leave my mind if I do read them and I want to sleep tonight rather than obsessing over this), I have seen the reactions and it seems that the general agreement is that it was best to fire him, especially in the current political and social climate. If even half of what I heard is true, then I agree with that sentiment as well.
But that’s not what I’m here to talk about. I’m sure many of you are wondering what I plan on doing with the character due to this situation. And I’m here to tell you this:
I don’t know.
Let me elaborate: Ralph Dibny was never going to be a major character in this story. Never. I was still debating over whether or not I was going to give him his stretching powers. Now, with all this, I am debating over whether or not the character should suffer for their actor’s actions. I like the character (especially after he became less of a jerk in Season Five), but after this...I don’t know. I honestly don’t.
Ralph was originally introduced just to show how much the timeline changed with Barry, Kara, and Kal on the island with Oliver. I only gave him a more prominent role to give meaningful character development to Iris and her changing relationship with Barry. Plus he made a good comedic foil to Iris, who is a far more serious character in my story than she is in canon. So, he has been pivotal to a certain extent.
That being said, he isn’t indispensable, especially in Arc V, which is where I would write him out if I do make that decision. I already have a character in mind that can effectively serve his purpose and replace him, but in an entirely different way. The thing is, I had plans for that character too, and while they weren’t going to play much of a role, it was still an important one in regards to one of the more major characters. I guess Ralph can take that role instead, but I will have to test write it to make sure.
I’m sure this wasn’t you expected or wanted to read on my blog for this story, but I still found it something I needed to address, especially since I’m going to be continue writing Arc IV soon now that one day at a time has officially been completed. Again, all of this only really affects Arc V and beyond, so I have time to make the decision.
Thank you for reading this. If you have any more questions, just use the ask box. I will answer them eventually, as long as they are respectful and meaningful.
The Long-Awaited Update
Hey, everyone. It’s been a while.
I’m sorry I’ve been gone for so long, but I’ve gotten busy with life. In particular, if you’re following me as an author, you know I’ve been writing a Jason Todd Peggy Sue fic, which has taken up a lot of my time. I’m almost done with the first half of that now, which is why I’m finishing up the last act of Arc IV.
Speaking of that, I’m going to begin updating again in a couple of days or so. It’s going to be great, and I’m sure most of you will love it. I in particular have been enjoying writing this part of the arc, and I’m sure the finale will set you off into the tailspin.
After that, however, I will need to take another break to start fully planning Arc V, which you all know I’ve been looking forward to writing since the very beginning of the story. So please, be patient.
