what pains me most abt thistle's situation is that... even if he realizes his faults, even if he is able to acknowledge the truth standing in front of him and finally let go, he... won't be happy. no matter what he does now, the truth is he already lost everything that he ever loved, and he destroyed them with his own hands. and realizing that will only break him more... and he's not even truly happy with the current situation, he probably wasn't genuinely happy and satisfied and at peace in hundreds of years, but he keeps doing this because he thinks it's what's best for his beloved people, and it's not. it's not, and hundreds of years of being miserable and full of anger and fear and pain were all in vain
