Wanted to post something before taking a long break from this account.

I got this idea from something my senpai, @loosesodamarble made.

I know that's almost all they have in common. I know their personalities are too different but it was fun making this.

There are like. Two primary subgenres of Wizard in popular culture. The one most people think of is an old guy with a long white beard a pointy hat and robes and whimsical vibes. The other one is the traumatized and at times brutally violent redhead who uses a lot of fire magic but also has a diverse set of other skills and utility spells and is probably some kind of prodigy. And that second one sounds extremely specific, but I can name at least four instances of it off the top of my head.

"Are you sure they'll like me?" you ask as your boyfriend, Arthur, leads you through the palace halls to the dining room, where his parents and younger sister are waiting.

"I'm sure," he reassures you for what feels like the millionth time. "Mom and Ellie can't wait to meet you. And Dad can't wait to fight you."

"You'll be fine," Sylvie says from her spot on Arthur's soldier.

"Thanks, Sylv," you reply, taking a deep breath.

Arthur pushes the door open to reveal a mid-sized dining room. Sitting at the table are his mother, father, and sister. "Art!" Ellie cries, immediately rushing to hug her brother. He laughs, hugging her back.

"I'd like you all to formally meet my partner, (Y/N)," he says, gesturing to you.

His mom approaches you and pulls you into a hug. "Art's told us so much about you," she tells you.

"Only good things, I hope," you joke.

His dad pats you on the shoulder. "Well, he said that back at school, you were one of the strongest mages in your element(s)."

Your face heats up. "Well, my magic's nothing special," you reply.

"Don't lie to yourself," Arthur tells you. "You're still one of the strongest mages I know."

"I'll make you something to eat!" his mom says.

"And I'd like to test your combat," his dad adds.

"Me too!" Ellie pipes up.

You smile at them. You really were worried for nothing.

The thing about Isekai...

Slight spoilers for TBATE btw

As a genre, I notice like, 2 specific kinds, the first and most popular one, so it seems, are where the MC either dies or is teleported as is to another realm, like Re:Zero (or Shadow Slave because it half-fits), this works well for many stories but doesn't have much time for the character to grow into the new world, but the second kind, where the MC dies and is reincarnated as an infant (Such as in TBATE or, *shudder* Mushoku Tensei [ew]), gives us the world-building and long-term story that at least I find myself craving. This shows a problem though.

Romance can be a large part of many stories, I see it a lot in the content I consume, but in Isekai's of the second kind, romance is WEIRD due to the mental and physical age difference. Made even worse in how in the two Isekai of this kind I've any knowledge of, the first love interest is a CHILDHOOD FRIEND.

Dear god, it's gross, Arthur should have just chosen Caera so he wouldn't be a damn creep. Both are made worse by the fact these are former grown ass men who early on got feelings for these childhood friends, Arthur is a little better since he knows he's a creep, but he still ends up with Tessia. Ts pmo.
