My mom told me that not everyone can taste that weird aftertaste from fake sugars and genuinely wtf
What do you mean not everyone can taste the chemically cough medicine taste of aspartame?
What do you mean it doesn't taste like just the first note of robitussin to you?
I thought everyone just dealt with it because it was for the trade off on the drink being low/no sugar. I didn't ever consider that some people might not be able to taste the difference at all.
And also everyone that can taste the aftertaste seems to not be able to fully describe it in any specific way. My mom says it tastes like what you imagine cyanide to taste like (generic poison, not the actual almond taste). I say it tastes like vaguely cough medicine or kinda metallic chemical-y (depends on the drink and other flavorings in it).
I am really curious about this... does anybody know what the hell happened to Orange flavored things?
In my childhood in the early 80s, the three artificial fruit flavor horsemen of the apocalypse were Cherry, Orange, and Grape. Orange was the main one, with Cherry and Grape being in a constant war for 2nd place.
Now... Orange flavored things seem to be almost entirely extinct. Sodas and a few traditional candies (lifesavers, starbursts) still exist, but everything else has gone.
If there is an "Orange" flavor, it's usually either orange creamsicle or a tropical blend that features orange but has like pineapple and mango in it, and Cherry seems to have been usurped by very gross fake Strawberry as the de facto red flavor.
I'm guessing there's some explanation, like either the flavoring chemicals turned out to be... you know... poisonous, or they have found cheaper flavors to make. But I've never actually seen anything to explain it anywhere.
Ok so do we think that vampires who can’t taste food anymore would be able to taste things with artificial flavorings? They aren’t natural products, so because they are chemically engineered would vampires be able to taste things like candies made with artificial flavors.
I’m now picturing a vampire just going fucking bonkers over blue raspberry flavored anything. Like full feral getting anything blue raspberry flavored that they can and not just candy, just like guzzling blue raspberry snow cone syrup or something insane.
This brings me to my next point, can they taste the artificial flavors of things that aren’t even a food. For instance, any makeup product that has a flavor to it like lipgloss and chapstick. This of course makes them more obsessed with kissing their human s/o. Maybe I’ll write a oneshot about either of these things. Who knows 🤷♀️
🍇💥Grape flavor poll!!💥🍇
💞🍇 love grape flavor, my ultimate bestie
😡🍇 grape flavor die challenge
❌💊 grape flavor is pretty good as long as it doesn’t taste like medicine
💞💊 grape flavor is only good if it tastes like medicine
I just need to know tumblr’s official ruling
my cat was prescribed gabapentin and i noticed the other day it was very sweet (i didn’t intentionally taste it, some got on my face when i was drawing it up into the syringe) and im wondering if its a human formula? it was artificial strawberry im pretty sure which. i dont think cats would find very palatable. and isnt artificial sweetener used for human meds? wouldnt these make it unsafe for cats?
gettingvetted here.
The vast majority of medications prescribed to animals are technically human drugs and the liquids are often pre-flavored. Azithromycin, for example, has an absolutely nasty cherry flavor. Many medications can have flavors added, for example I often have marshmallow flavoring added to dog meds and chicken or tuna flavoring added to cat meds. The most common places to find xylitol (the only artificial sweetener that is really problematic) are in gum, toothpaste, and peanut butter. Other artificial sweeteners (most commonly sorbitol) aren't problematic for animals unless consumed in large quantities, and there aren't actually any recorded cases of xylitol toxicity in cats. Cats can't taste sweet flavors anyway, so if it is off-putting to them, it is less likely to be due to a sweet flavor.
y'know that one really high note in The Basement ?
i can hit it
ChEMicALs

I’m soooo done with products advertised as “no ingredients you can’t understand!” XD; Guys, I’m not a chemist. Of course I don’t understand every scientific name on the side of the cereal box. That doesn’t make them all BAD. Do you know how many common, natural, EDIBLE chemicals are in the foods we eat? Here are just a few examples:
Acetylsalicylic acid - aspirin Pyrodoxine - Vitamin B12 Ferrous gluconate - primary source of iron for iron supplements Calcium propionate - a naturally-occurring organic salt used to keep bread from molding Oxidane - WATER
I totally support accountability when it comes to amounts of additives in food (anything can be bad for you if there’s too much, and many things are perfectly safe in trace amounts) and being aware of adverse effects (if there are any). But treating us as though we can only trust in something if the name looks familiar or sounds nice is ridiculous. We are the majority of us not going to have this knowledge on hand, and inflaming this irrational fear of “ChEMicALs” just encourages ignorance and blind purchasing because more of us will automatically reject stuff simply because of the (kinda conceited) idea that we already know everything we need to make an informed decision. Meanwhile companies are delighted to have found a new gimmick for sucking us into purchasing their products for a higher markup.
So basically these commercials randomly naming chemicals and LITERALLY saying, “Do YOU know what any of those are? I don’t! Here’s our product where you’ll recognize everything!” make me want to clunk my head against a wall. ^^; You didn’t even tell me why I shouldn’t eat them, just said I shouldn’t because I don’t recognize them?!? Why are companies like this and why do we fall for it uuuuugh
