New research has found increasing levels of artificial sweeteners in wastewater treatment plants, with downstream impacts on the environment
New research has found increasing levels of artificial sweeteners in wastewater treatment plants, with downstream impacts on the environment. Artificial sweeteners, widely used in soft drinks, processed foods and sugar-free products such as toothpaste, are increasingly turning up far from supermarket shelves—in our rivers, waterways and natural ecosystems. Some sugar substitutes have faced controversy for potential negative health effects, including links to type-2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer. Some also pose toxicity risks to aquatic animals. In zebrafish, sucralose causes birth defects and high levels of saccharin are neurotoxic.

Aspartame doesn't give you cancer if you're pure of heart
Saccharin Never Tasted So Bad...
Tab Cola, 1964
What is ASPARTAME? 🤔
First time baking cupcakes with Splenda (the kind made for baking) and the first tray is in the oven
I already have two observations:
It gets airborne easily and then the air has an aftertaste
It made less cupcakes than usual - about 18 instead of the usual 24. This is likely because the granules are fluffed up so it measures like real sugar despite being sweeter and finer. So when it gets mixed in with the butter and eggs... it kind of collapses :/
So these are going to be dense and quite sweet. Welp. I'm doing my best
The chocolate is for the whipped ganache frosting, but that is a challenge for tomorrow
it's funny how I'll say "I'm the #1 aspartame hater" and people will hear "I think aspartame gives you cancer." believe me, I know it's harmless in the quantities normal people are consuming it. it just tastes like shit
Look I appreciate that artificial sweeteners are a useful invention but can they please, please stop putting these in every.single.soft drink? I'd like to occasionally be able to get a soda I don't hate without having to closely check all the ingredient lists.
(I don't mind drinks having less sugar actually just stop replacing it with artificial sweeteners. I'm one of those people who always can taste the aspartame or sucralose or whatever and it tastes cloying and awful to me."Need to rinse my mouth asap" bad.And it's Everywhere now.I used to be able to avoid it by not drinking anything "light" or "zero" or "low calorie" but not anymore)
