Who are you?
Backstory: my directing 1 class in college was one of the best classes I took, and I’ll never forget the first week when my teacher went around and asked everyone who they were. We didn’t understand it at first, but he eventually explained that he thought in order to be an artist, one needed a firm understanding of who they were, what their artistic mission(s) were, and what their goals as artists were. It was an interesting introspective exercise that really made me understand myself and what I value when I create art. So for the new year I decided to make a new who are you questionnaire. I tried to make it both for artists and writers, but I would hope it can work for anyone! Also I like making memes.
Questions:
At your core, who are you?
What makes you happy?
What sort of writing/art do you like?
Reflecting upon your work, is there a common thread? What is it?
How does your unique life experience appear in your work? (If at all?)
What is your goal as an artist? Do you want to make people feel or think, or both?
How has other art influenced you, and how do you use that influence?
What matters most in your work?
What would you like people to learn/observe from your work?
Where would you like to see yourself/your art in the future?
Going back to the beginning, and thinking about the core of who are you and what makes you happy, how does that manifest into your work?
I won’t tag anyone in case this wonderful idea that I thought I had isn’t so wonderful, but if you do this and want to share, please tag me! :)
