hi jack!! if the pilots approached you to direct a brand new livestream experience, on any subject of your choosing, with unlimited budget and a lot of time to prepare everything, what would you do for it?
ohhhhhh this is such a good question!! so good in fact i'm actually gonna give you three answers, lol
one is lore based, another is for the fans and another is for ME hahahahaha
1 - Stuck in a Cycle I've Never Been Able to Break
this one's basically a musical of all the lore. starts AND ENDS with heavydirtysoul, has the transition from paladin strait into city walls right before the end, full fight choreo on stage, tons of actors, somewhat similar to the sai livestream experience in scale and other people involved, forcing tyler to learn choreography, lol. i am also VERY for the clique playing banditos and citizens of dema.
full sets recreating music videos, actors coming back, the whole storyline playing out....i'd really need to think about the order of the songs but i think i'd start with blurryface songs and character!tyler (pre becoming clancy) waking up from it like a prophetic dream, before going about a normal day in dema (trench songs, sai songs) until he finds the banditos and decides to rebel, jumpsuit/nico and the niners/levitate detailing his escape and return, saturday showing him going out to voldsoy, then navigating as him finding his way back, other songs interspersed to develop the characters (i could see them playing the songs as other banditos or citizens of dema have b plots as well since they're affected by clancy's story and he's basically created the soundtrack to their lives, paralleling how tøp has created the soundtrack to our lives).
basically playing out the story as straightforward as possible, we deserve it after so many years of crumbs and puzzles. very little dialogue, most of it is tyler and josh acting with their faces and body language with really cool underscoring and song transitions. i'd have to put all the songs in what makes sense for lore order which will be TOUGH but VERY fun. the og livestream experience actually made me start writing a tøp musical around the sai era but i never finished it. maybe i should now! we're making full use of the fact that we can simply move over to the next set with this one, i'd film it more like a live movie than anything, really put it all in one contained space.
2 - We're Twenty One Pilots and So Are You
basically the Eras Tour for tøp. if ANYONE else can do it, it's them. i'm talking full recreations of past tours and album cycles. old costumes, old set pieces, old transitions and bits of setlists from older tours, even their older performing style!! i loved when tyler would do shit like wrap the mic chord around his neck lmao i want that again and in an ideal world HE'LL DO IT.
each album (in order would be best imo) getting its own moment to shine and be highlighted, a good amount of songs for each and each with a different set/costumes. basically we would get to relive each era (or for newer fans live through it for the first time) and it'll all be one big love letter to who twenty one pilots are as a band. as well as us!!
even though we are going era by era i WOULD still love to end with trees bc let's be real here it has existed in three different versions across eras and it has been not just a staple of a twenty one pilots concert but the definition of one. it has to end on that. in fact, now that i think about it this doesn't have to seem weird at all. we could end on the vessel era!! it's super meaningful to who they are as a band, and like the eras tour we actually don't have to go in chronological order. huh. i think i just convinced myself of that.
also rab is getting its own era OBVIOUSLY! idc if the boys don't consider it an album i do. self titled era is tyler twitching and playing the piano lol. and old footage will be shown too!!
3 - This One is Literally Just For Jack Specifically
ok this one's self indulgent. in this one which is not what i'd actually do if i were given this task, i would do some soul searching to produce a list of my absolute favorite twenty one pilots songs and live performances ever and just ask them to do that, lol. i would make use of the fact that it's a livestream though and intersperse it with classic old funny clips or memes that i'm nostalgic for. this one will be happier, include all my favorite songs, and again we're making tyler do choreography. AND MAKE THEM DO THE HANDSHAKE. also i get to dress them up in little outfits like dolls hehe. way less story based and more just "this is what i've always wanted you to play/wear/do and so now you'll do it" lmao. less concrete of an idea but hey if i say "open the show with ode to sleep" they're gonna open the show with ode to sleep.
