oh, this is my first time watching 4C so i didn't know that, thanks for telling me :D does he usually keep alliums in his inventory outside of Bannerfall?
it would be nice if there was a deeper meaning but even if it isn't, it's sweet Nom keeps 4C in his mind like that to give 4C his favorite flowers when he happens to pick them up

Apologies if this was answered, but what are your thoughts/analysis about the natural way Oda portrays characters internalizing/repeating beliefs from others? Such as when Law word for word told Tashigi what Doflamingo had told him regarding "the weak not choosing how they die". It was rather baffling, because though Law and Doflamingo may share the "same eyes", to reiterate anything, even if true/you agree with, that someone you truly hate had said feels foreign to me (particularly because it doesn't necessarily feel like a scene where a victim hurts others the same way they were hurt?). Secondly, the amount of scenes Luffy has talking about his dislike for "weak people" or "crying" (Shirahoshi). I know Luffy had similar sentiments when meeting Shanks but to me, everytime he repeats it, I just see Ace talking. It almost feels like a subconscious way of holding onto a part of Ace. Interested to know any other instances you noticed!
Heyo, thank you for the ask and sorry for the very late reply. I was busy and then just kept getting distracted.
To talk about the scene with Law and Tashigi we first need to keep in mind that at that point, Doflamingo was basically living rent free in Law's head as he was so focused on taking revenge on him which must have triggerd a barrage of intense emotion of hatred, pain and fear on his psyche making him slip back into his sadistic habits that he gained after the Flevance genocide. So it isn't so far fetched that he subconsciously quoted the man he saw as an inspiration for three years when his mind was most vulnerable for manipulation. However, Law puts his own twist to the meaning of this quote. when Doflamingo says "the weak do not have the right to choose how they die", he uses it to justify murder. But when Law says it, he uses it to refuse Tashigi's request to kill her. "Murder isn't my style. I'm a doctor" (- Law in ch 918) - a principle he inherited from his parents and regained after Rosinante saved him and both his literal and metaphorical heart. In conclusion, Law saying that to Tashigi was a reflection of both the people who had the most influence on his minds and actions during the whole Dressrosa saga. The words may be the same as Doflamingo's but the heart of the message carry Rosinante's love - just like Law who acts aloof and grumpy on the outside but actually has a soft heart.
When it comes to Luffy hating "crybabies", i do believe he got those words to express his feelings from Ace. I'd also like to point out that all the characters Luffy told that too were younger than him (Koby, Shirahoshi, Momonosuke) so you could say he channeled Ace's big brother energy in those instances. But it is also important to point out that unlike Ace, who would scowl at Luffy when reprimanding him for being a "crybaby" or a "weakling" (note: this is not a dis on Ace, he was going through a lot and his bad attitude is understandable), Luffy has a big grin on his face (with Koby and Shirahoshi at least, i don't remember how exactly he was with Momo, i'd have to re-read, sorry) which indicates there's no real heat behind his words since we also know what it looks like when he actually hates someone (Luffy's expressions can be scary sometimes but it's also often times very deserved reaction).
There are plenty more instances of characters internalizing and repeating beliefs of others since inherited will is one of One Piece's main themes. Some examples off the top of my head:
Luffy's idea of what a pirate is came from Shanks
Nami's soft spot for children and love of tangerines inherited from Bell-Mère
Franky's "existence is not a crime" from Tom's speech about building ships/weapons
Iceburg revitalizing Water 7's economy by founding Galley-La like Tom did by building the sea train
Robin's love of history and her determination to preserve it from the scholars of Ohara
Shirahoshi refusing to hate humans to preserve Otohime's wish for the future
Chopper wanting to become the greatest doctor inspired by Hiriluk
Sanji refusing to kick women and fight with his hands to honor Zeff
Bonney believing in Nika like Kuma
Rebecca refusing to fight offensively to fulfill Scarlett's wishes of not staining her hands with blood
Yamato being inspired by Oden to seek his own freedom
Roger inspiring many to strive to become the Pirate King
and many more... i'd be here forever if i were to name all of them
Hope that satisfies your question and i'm again really sorry it took so long for me to answer
Adding to the Luffy and Blackbeard foil, I have another opposing parallelism to propose.
To me, Luffy reppresents well being. Both phisical and mental. Of course he is laid back and relaxed and proiritises happiness and freedom, but he also exibits other traits tied to phisical health. There is his appetite, his phisical endurance, and overall agility and capability. It also means he is free to do whatever he wants as long as he has his health. There are many ways an illness or ailment can prevent it.
And well, to me, Blackbeard is cancer. Like, he seriously is just that.
On an obvious note, his powers consist of absorbing everything around him and then he just... turns everything into shit. He ridicules you. Steals your innocense. He destroys you and leaves you in ruins. He takes everything from you.
There cannot be a more direct parallelism to this. Its well being and health vs death and desease.
hmm... your line of thinking is also supported by the doctors Blackbeard and Luffy have on their crew.
while Doc Q has the sick-sick fruit that allows him to create and spread illnesses, Chopper vowed to become the ultimate cure and despises ppl who use illnesses as a weapon.
Ahhh I just found your blog and I love Tae already!!! So for your OC asks meme: 21, 35, 41, 45, and a fifth one of your choosing. :)
0w0 thank you so much ;A; I’m so glad you like him! T__T *weeps* Answering these for Taerel only.
21. Do they have a temper? Are they patient? What are they like when they do lose their temper?
OH BOY DOES HE. Tae’s fuse is short and very flammable. Especially in the beginning, Haven and the first few months of Skyhold, it didn’t take much to set Taerel off. It gets better with time though; he learns to be patient and think before he acts or says something potentially harmful/insulting. Especially after he becomes a father he gets better at controlling his temper and other emotions, because he wants to be a good example for his daughter.
He’s always been the kind of guy to wear his emotions on his sleeve.
It’s not until after Corypheus’ defeat and Solas’ subsequent disappearing that he makes a huge leap forward in controlling his emotions, but it’s not necessarily for the better. He doesn’t shut down, but Solas vanishing on him without a trace or an explanation definitely made him put a lid on what he feels, and it put a dent in his confidence. He doesn’t lash out as often anymore.
The events of Trespasser wear him down, but he has a good reason to keep going. By then he has a firm grip on his emotions. You could even say that because of everything that has happened, he was forced to mature XD Because he definitely was an immature little shit in the beginning.
35. What’s their guilty pleasure? What is their totally unguilty pleasure?
Taerel actually does enjoy listening to Orlesians talk. Not because of what they say, but how they say it. It’s the accent. It’s his favorite accent and he’ll never admit to liking it.
41. What’s their sexuality? What do they find attractive? Physically and mentally? What do they like/need in a relationship?
Bisexual, with a slight preference towards males but he can easily go either way. He’s also susceptible to developing crushes on people of any race, but actual true attraction is limited to other elves. A crush is honestly just that; a crush.
He definitively has a thing for taller people, he finds that incredibly attractive. He’s also attracted to people who share a lot of similar interests, because his interests are things he likes to talk about. He’s also attracted to people whom he thinks are stronger than him, physically and/or mentally, because he needs someone to fall back on when he’s overwhelmed, someone who can pull him back onto his feet and keep him steady. It’s why he falls so hard for Solas very early on.
Taerel is an emotional needy person. He craves closeness, intimacy. He wants to be near, he wants to hold hands, he wants to express attraction and love with more than just words. Public displays of affection don’t make him uncomfortable.
45. How do other people see them? Is it similar to how they see themselves?
Being the Inquisitor, he sees it as a role. It’s a mask he puts on in public. It’s not who he truly is, but it’s what other people see. They will see the strong and confident leader of the Inquisition, someone who knows exactly what he’s doing, who is somehow always one step ahead of the enemy. A charismatic people person. It’s what people want to see, so it’s what he shows them. Those outside of Skyhold don’t see the loser :P Taerel behind the mask. The one who likes to hang out in Solas’ room and watch him paint. The one who can spend hours in the library with Dorian going through old books and tomes and compare notes and discoveries and nerd about historical figures. The one who can keep up and match Bull’s raunchy jokes and stories. And only those of the Inner Circle get to see him when all the walls are down.
49. What is their most valued object? Are they sentimental? Is there something they have to take everywhere with them?
A little 2 inch wooden figurine of June, hand carved by his father and given to him for his seventh birthday. It was part of a set featuring all the elven gods, but June was his favorite and the one he always kept on his person.
It was in his pocket on the day Tantervale’s guards and templars stormed the Alienage and captured him. He held onto it as he lay in total darkness underground, with his only other company in the coffin being the beetles, the worms, and the rotting body next to him.
It became his good luck charm, and Taerel carries it on his person at all times, safely pocketed away.
