I think Saps is actually a pretty interesting character tbh. He’s fun to psycho-analyse

His whole thing about “deserving” to play on the server is almost like he’s trying to justify why he has to go through all that suffering to begin with. How he and his friends had to fought their way through in order to prove that they’re “worthy” to survive, because to Saps that’s just how things are supposed to go. And since he had survived the harshness, he believes that he and the other old players are worthy of enjoying the server because they are the strong ones.

So when Parrot had made these new rules when he became king, he probably thought it was unfair how the new players were able to have it easy instead of having to fight for it like he did. He believes that through suffering and struggle is what makes him worthy. Without that struggle/natural selection, he would probably think that he didn’t earn it himself. And from his perspective, with Parrot being crowned King, it just made things way harder for him and the other old players when he was managing it just fine with how it was.

A very interesting parallel to Reina’s character I think. Both of them deals with themes of whether they “deserve” to be on the server of not. Reina believes she doesn’t deserve to play on the server because she didn’t go through that harshness. While Saps believes that he deserved to be here because he had survived that harshness. They had both been through grief and had directed that anger towards eliminating what they had perceived to be the cause of the issue. Which makes me wonder what is Sap’s plan after overtaking the throne and becoming king himself. Is this all just a way to unhealthy vent out his grief and anger or did he have more plans for the kingdom?

Should someone believe that they deserve something solely because they had suffered the most? Is there a measurement to how much someone had suffered? Just because times are no longer like how it was for you, does that mean that you should ruin that for the new generation?

Ok so. Analysis time.

As I was saying, I think this scene perfectly captures the miscommunication issue these two have and how they’re gonna solve it. Which is literally by explaining themselves

The scene starts off with Wemmbu offering a deal to Flame so that he could team up with him. Flame misunderstands Wemmbu’s intentions and questions Wemmbu about that. Wemmbu, after knowing Flame’s confusion, explains himself until the two of them are finally on the same page. This situation was solved almost immediately because at the moment, the stakes are a lot lower and Imperial Fire are currently on much better terms than they are currently. Wemmbu sees no reason to hide anything due to him knowing that Flame would most definitely take that deal, as well as wanting to team up with him again. And therefore, the misunderstanding had been resolved almost immediately due to both of them being willing to communicate.

However, currently Wemmbu isn’t telling Flame anything, because he had already expected Flame to not care (as well as Flame being the reason why Wemmbu was in the situation to begin with. So there is definitely resentment). Which had led to the misunderstanding and confusion to grow even further.

This scene seems insignificant, as it presents itself as casual banter/another Tuesday. But it says a lot I think

Wait I just clocked how Wemmbu and Flame’s common language is violence. So when Flame is trying to 1v1 Wemmbu and Wemmbu just kept on trying to avoid him is basically just Flame wanting to know what the hell happened to him while Wemmbu just kept dodging the question as he refused to talk to him. Fu@k. Fu@k. Why. I hate everything

Just finished the episode and. Man.

It’s so bittersweet and a much lighter video in comparison to Wemmbu’s doom and despair. Torchflower saying their goodbyes in order to follow what they want to peruse and bonding over their shared loses of their friends. And this is like. Super refreshing btw. For a protag. Like these two literally being one of the only Protag pairs to not be codependent in any way. They’re both independent people with their own goals and beliefs and yet they become friends anyway. And then just promising each other that they’ll meet each other again one day. And at the same time they won’t mean any less to the other while they’re both apart. This is nice. Although I’m definitely gonna miss these two being together cause boy was that a treat

While at the same time Imperial Fire is dead in the ditch. Wemmbu not telling Flame what’s going on because of obvious reasons while Flame just remained clueless at why Wemmbu was acting that way and perceived it as him not caring about that LAW speech Lettuce had talked about. I’ll probably do an analysis about the topic of the miscommunication between Imperial Fire as a whole later cause there’s this one scene in particular that just kept coming back to my mind. I feel that it’s most definitely a lot more significant then it first appeared to be

just watching wemmbu get like 1009 times more destructive when he doesn’t have a teammate. Eggs captured and you can see him fully giving up on truly getting his friend back and ever being able to be safe together.

we watch him use himself as bait for his whole fight, yeah wemmbu, leap into the webs and blow yourself up to get the ppl around you, popping a totem in the meanwhile. Sure, drop bombs and light shit and destroy everything. Asking people to keep fighting you, not restocking (visibly to the audience) other than more bombs, more destruction

it’s interesting because you don’t see these tactics from him normally, it’s a lot of blowing up but (from what I remember) he doesn’t usually dive into webs and call out super loudly as bait. We don’t even see him do this when he’s fighting with Jaden in the beginning of the episode. maybe bc he doesn’t want his teammate getting caught up in it to try and save him. But still, we’re watching what wemmbu turns into without egg or Jaden or flame or a teammate. He just becomes a weapon, point and destroy.

I was thinking about the inconsistency between what Jamato claimed he'd achieved through his anonymity (aka convincing the prisoners that Spoke is truly the one behind NULL) and what we actually see in the episode (we do hear a couple of prisoners voicing their lack of trust for Spoke, but not for that reason, mainly because he was broke af, and the only one who resents him does so because they blame Spoke for the death of their best friend not because they think he's behind NULL).

Now, Jamato isn't exactly known for having a particularly accurate perception of reality. And, yes, part of it is him being purposefully manipulative, but it's relatively safe to assume that at least some of the things he claims he does fully believe in.

Which leaves us with two options here.

Either Jamato didn't believe that he'd turned everyone against Spoke and was just hoping that Spoke's paranoia would do the job of convincing him and hopefully lead him to isolate himself (because it's clear that Jamato wants Spoke alone from the fact that he tried to kill everyone he so much as interacted with for more than five minutes and also planned to leave him in solitary indefinitely).

Or Jamato did believe what he was saying. Perhaps because doing the dirty work while invisible and letting Spoke take the fall for it all by virtue of just being there and being memorable worked for Ash in the past when sabotaging the farms. Something Jamato most likely knew, because he was very much around during the Invisible Mafia arc, being hunted down himself. And he has been emulating it and Ash. And he does seem particularly hung up on the past (anyone who thinks Spoke is the biggest danger to the server past the first half of season 1 is, tbh).

I wouldn't be surprised if this is yet again just Jamato having a faulty view of things. And that is the interpretation I'm leaning towards. Especially since this is far from the only instance of Jamato's claims not matching reality at all.

But I'd be interested to hear other theories if anyone has 'em. I'm curious
