In my friend’s tropically inspired garden in Essex, UK, there was a magnificent clump of Aspidistra elatior 'Variegata' (cast iron plant) alongside Dicksonia antarctica (soft tree fern) and Fatsia japonica 'Variegata' (false castor oil plant). This evergreen perennial creates a clump of leathery, long, dark green leaves with irregularly stripes of creamy-white. This plant needs shade and a relatively frost-free enviroment.

So quickly since this is just a reblog, some cool shit I picked up while watching a documentary on The Aspidistra radio tower which did black propaganda during ww2.

The Rainbow room scheme looks pretty similar to the interior of Aspy’s station. Black propaganda in this context means the station signal was so powerful it overrode german broadcasts. idk idk but that sure sounds like the mind flayer particles flying up the tower to me

In season 5 we see robin futzing with panels outside of the broadcast booth. The panels are strikingly similar to the above black and white photo

Now on ward to some other interesting parallels with Voice of America [who gained super prominance during the cold war] and WSQK

on the left is WSQK right is VOA near Long Island, during ww2.

The above is part of the VOA facility in Cincinatti. Now here’s an extra caveat, it looks very similar to degausser? Degausse facility where you run submarines through to become less magnetic. ANOTHER. INTERESTING. HISTORICAL. NOTE. The philly experiment? in real life was an op to test degaussing [ww2] on ships so mines wouldn’t explode against the hull. And, making ships invisible to sonar. This is where the conspiracy theory comes in about making a ship invisible.

Anyway, some of the door ways through multiple seasons look like this. and i just. have so many gd questions. I also still super cannot get a read on robin.

my personal theory since im here yapping: will actually died in season 1? but mike grows up learns to accept himself and becomes a spook. meanwhile whatever the hell brenner was doing caused the nazis to win ww2 so NSA has an existensial threat: radio is important without winning ww2 we dont win the cold war. So mike is trying to write a program to solve all this.

Aspidistra elatior

Cast Iron Plant

Although thought to have originated in China, it is actually native to Japan. They are naturalized in large parts of the world where it doesn’t get too cold. They are called Cast Iron Plants because they are so hardy and tolerant of neglect.

At the Chocolati in Greenwood there is just some sort of plant, maybe an Aspidistra, living underneath the grates looking incredibly sketchy? It’s been living it’s best life there apparently because it’s been there alive for years.
