(( Soulmate AU Starters (Accepting) ))
Optimus had always been confused by the names on his wrist. For starters, they were both the same name, Megatron. But they were very different too. The name on his right wrist was sharp and unsteady glyphs, like the writer had not practiced his letters much, or simply did not care how they turned out as long as it was legible. The name on his left wrist was much smoother and neater, more practiced.
He did not think of his Names often, so busy he was with work, until the day he first heard Megatronus’s message. How close the name was struck him, and he knew the gladiator had to be one of his, only confirmed when the -us was dropped from the name. But was he his sparkmate, or his worst enemy?
Orion contacted him, and they spoke together about the unrest, the movement, and other things, but never about Names. It wasn’t until their first face to face meeting that he was going to do it, only for the bombings to go off, and there was no time. Then things moved quickly and they were before the Council, and Megatron swore his vengeance for Orion’s betrayal.
Orion was renamed Optimus Prime, and he led the Autobots in battle, and he realized which of the Names Megatron was. But the other name still baffled him. The only explanation he had was his sparkmate was named for the Warlord, but who would do that? Not to mention such a mech would make him feel like a cradle robber, especially after the adoption of his daughter Roselight.
The War ended, Megatron fleeing for parts unknown, and Optimus threw himself into the rebuilding efforts of Cybertron. He led his people to peace, and managed to find his own. Then he went to a party with his daughter and the younger members of his team, and ended up going home with a handsome mech, thoroughly enjoying each other’s company through the night.
It was not until the next morning, as he was warming energon while his guest washed up, that he realized they hadn’t properly introduced themselves. “I hope you will forgive me,” he said when the mech returned, “but I did not introduce myself last night. I am Optimus.”
