Themetic parallels:

2) The threat in the foreground and the victim in front of them.

4) Jet realizing there's an enemy behind him.

•A red, lively forest VS A green, cold catacomb.

•Fighting for freedom VS Fighting out of someone else's control.

Colors:

•Red represents passion and love but also anger and hatred.

•Universally used to signal stop, danger, fire, and blood.

•Red often symbolizes revolution or sacrifice.

•Green, unlike the "growth" aspect, which it's more commonly associated with, it can sometimes represent stagnation or being "stuck" in a rut.

•In horror and folklore, green light or skin often signifies monsters, poison, or malevolent magic.

•Green can also be symbolism of rural resistance or fighting for one's homeland. Additionally it sometimes represents perseverance, particularly within nature.

The guy who’s really good at inventing, didn’t want to let their dad down, and didn’t think he’d be a very good fighter but becomes one of the best.

The jokester(s) that have more common sense than people give them credit for.

The born warrior with the heart of gold. Also a sucker for the inventor.

The pacifist who can kick butt if needed.

The warrior who didn’t start out that way. Also a sucker for the pacifist. Also voiced by Mae Whitman.

The guy who had a change of heart and is now best friends (brothers!) with the hero.

in a way, the promise would be quite similar to zuko alone, if that episode had been written without a narrative bias slanted towards zuko. both episodes show the failure of parental figures, but in different ways.

in a way, shadow weaver created a kind of co-dependency between adora and catra, which explains why their relationships breaks down so totally when they are separated.

and yes, I do actually prefer the promise to zuko alone, because it made catra tragic and sympathetic in a way that I wished would have been done with azula.

however, I also have to admit that the episodes are not directly comparable, because they set out to achieve different goals. the promise was always meant to help us understand catra's motives and show her as this tragic figure we can feel for. zuko alone never intended to do anything similar with azula. I wish it had, but I also can't criticize the writers - they had their own vision for that episode, and they achieved what they wanted with it.

I was rewatching atla/tlok in a random order and realised that Book 3 episode 1 of atla (The Awakening) and Book 4 episode 7 of tlok (Reunion) are really similar

1. The avatar returns 

Aang wakes up after weeks being in a coma

Korra returns after being gone for 3 years

2- Both avatars feel like they have failed

The classic "I need my honour back"

“I feel like such a failure” after being defeated by Kuvira

3- Finally (my favourite) the I like your hair kataang/korrasami scene
