Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland Live Rave-A-Thon Was Actually Pretty Fun

So last night Insomniac Events hosted their first ever Live Rave-A-Thon in response to Beyond Wonderland being postponed. While Covid-19 has royally fucked a lot of our plans, it has truly made everyone more creative, and ironically, more connected via social media.

I, for one, have been enjoying my time inside. I’m really liking getting to work from home, and spend time reading, writing, and doing hobbies that I feel like I’ve forgotten about. That said, I still miss my raves and my rave fam! So joining the livestream last night was a blast.

The best though, was that initially I felt kinda weird and alone watching, but then I joined some chats, the YouTube live chat, texted my friends who were tuning in, and it felt like we were all together.

So here’s a quick recap of night one, with screenshots of some chats that made me LOL during. I saw the live stream on Youtube hit 52K at it’s peak, which is really incredible. Pasquale Rotella (founder of Insomniac Events) was hosting and said 1M were tuning in across channels, but I’m not so sure where? Twitch I saw 25K at one point but still idk about 1M... anyway...

8:00pm-8:25pm - Wax Motif

Wax Motif opened. He was a great start, good upbeat vibes but this was the beginning so I felt kinda weird just watching until I started connecting with people via text messages/chats and then I poured myself another glass of wine.

8:30pm-8:55pm - Mija 

The gloves in the header image of this post is from her set. It was wild to see the DJs wearing gloves while playing. I’ll be honest, I had to mute her set and watch something else for a bit. It was a little too mellow for me, but I think others really enjoyed it.

9:00pm-9:25pm - Jack Beats 

This is about the time that my bff and I, who usually run into each other at raves, decided to see if we could find each other in the live chat. Spoiler: we did. lol, just like a real rave, with tens of thousands around us we always somehow bump into each other!

9:30pm-9:55pm - Audien 

Audien was where I really started tuning back in. He mixed in a little Imogen Heap, we were all over, but it was a blast. His set got my energy back up.

10:00pm-10:25pm - Party Favor 

Party Favor was great. He was the first one to make some Corona Virus themed sound ups in his set. I also LOL’d when he turned down the music at one point so that the “crowd” could sing along to a song. Dead. Def was also laughing at Insomniac’s inserts like “Sanitized Hands Up!”.

Also checked out Twitch to see how they were doing, 25K.

Things started getting fun in the comments sections for me now too.

But I wasn’t the only person having fun:

10:30pm-10:55pm - 4B 

In between sets Pasquale would talk a little as they disinfected the DJ booth for the next DJ. He coughed at one point which lit the live chat up LOL 4B had this one nice transition with ‘Toxic’ by Britney Spears that made me laugh, but to be totally honest, he did way too much for me. Each of these sets was only 25 mins, and I feel like the DJs that did better didn’t genre hop all over the place. Give me 25 mins of a good time damnit! 4B was the absolute choppiest with songs all night. I did though enjoy the throwback to Alors On Danse.

I decided to get some water during his set.

And spent some time in the live chat as well.

11:00pm-11:25pm - Kill The Noise 

Kill the Noise was great.  He also made some Corona Virus nods with some “Wash your hands bro!” sound ups before the beat dropped. I have a feeling that will carry on long beyond quarantined life. We got some dirty dubstep, and then some Billie Elish? It’s funny, was everyone’s sets feeling choppier. and all over the place because they were only 25 mins? Either way I was still into it. When he played ‘The Blood’ I was grooving for sure, and then he brought out a special guest, who was not 6 feet away which the live chat was very about announcing and then they HUGGED which really set the live chat off lol

11:30pm-11:55pm - SAYMYNAME

Final set of the night! Whiteclaws were dropped while dancing, the comments were lit, we’d dropped only about 3K people on the YouTube livestream, and we were ready to party! Saymyname was, lol again, I'm sorry, genre all over the place. We went from Major Lazer to Fisher... He was playing a lot of tracks people know though so that was fun! He was definitely super hype and performed the most out of the DJs all night, so the energy was high and it was a blast.

Where would the end of the Beyond be without the hot dog vendors?
