Imagine Stiles is the author of a very popular erotica series, but he publishes his works under a pen name so that no one knows who he is.
Derek is an avid read of fine literature who has a particular distaste for erotica becasue it tends to mostly be poorly written and glorified sexual abuse which brings up painful memories for him. But, as a joke, his sister got him one of Stiles’ books for his birthday. He had set it aside on his bookshelves and ignored it until one day it peaked his curiosity. He started reading it and soon found that it was a surprisingly good book; a story with well written prose that has a good plot that isn’t solely based around the erotic scenes and erotic scenes that are genuine, not glorified and abusive.
But the more he reads the more the story seems oddly familiar; a straggly young protagonist whose path crosses that of a reclusive rich man, Dominic Harris. The protagonist works their way into the man’s heart and teaches him to open up. But it’s not that simple, they constantly have to fight off supernatural threats. But, with time, they become friends, and lovers.
Derek pieces it together and confronts Stiles, watching the fear sink into the young man’s expression.
Stiles bumbles for an explanation, but his words collapse over one another and he stutters and stammers. The only thing Derek says is, “Is that really how you see us?” Stiles swallows hard, contemplating whether or not he should tell the truth, but after a minute he does; he says yes.
