moving through life as a sapphic autist
I was not put on Earth to work. I was put on Earth to laze around waiting for my wife to come home and kiss me.
💞 autistic bi women are so wonderful! 💞
at the age of 14 i started struggling with mental health problems. i've always been the shy kid, who's been labeled as 'too sensitive' and 'overly emotional'. as a child i didn't let anyone cut or wash my hair because it felt so scary and uncomfortable to me. i was afraid of fireworks, motorbikes and trains because they were so loud.
as long as i can remember, i've been very gullible which has led to people taking advantage of me multiple times. why can't i tell if someone's lying to me? why does it seem so hard for me to pick up on people's body language and facial expressions? sarcasm, idioms and certain jokes often fly over my head and i find myself asking people to explain a lot of things to me. why do i sometimes offend people without meaning to, when i pride myself in being so emphatetic and kind?
new social situations make me anxious and i feel like i'm acting like someone else, observing people around me and taking hints on how i should behave. at the end of the day i have to be alone, in a dimly lit quiet room so that i can feel calm and normal again. i need to recharge from trying to read all the social cues and from all the irking sounds, lights and smells i've noticed that other people don't seem to be bothered by.
for a long time i've felt that all of the mental health diagnosis that have been thrown at me over the years don't fully explain the way i experience and navigate the world. i've felt lost, sad and angry, not knowing what's wrong with me and why can't i just be like everyone else.
at the age of 21 i finally got the answer i've been looking for. at first i couldn't believe it, how could this have been missed for so many years? why hasn't anyone picked up on it sooner? then again, i've learned to mask my traits so well by observing and copying others' behaviour which is a common experience of women on the spectrum. yes, the fact of the matter is, i am autistic.
i didn't know everyone else doesn't experience the world the way i do, but that's just because i'm not like everyone else. i am strong, lovable, worthy and whole as i am. there's nothing to be fixed, there's not a cure to be found, there's nothing wrong with me, my brain is just wired differently.
happy autism awereness month! ❤

@ Atypical on Netflix,
Please give us the canon polyamorous relationship that Casey deserves.
Y'all ever date someone who's also autistic and have them talking about their experiences just make you realise how much stuff you do and experience is an Autism Thing™️?
Cause I sure am
