having pda profile autism as a kid is so hard because i have “I need to have autonomy at all times or I will cry” disorder but I’m part of a group of people that literally has no autonomy and is legally seen as property
10 Signs of 'Pathological Demand Avoidance (AKA Persistent Drive for Autonomy)
Neurodivergent_lou
I hate that any expectation, merely even perceived expectation, overwhelms me to the point I shut down.
I'm capable. These things aren't inherently difficult for me. They can even be enjoyable. Things that I want to do. But expectation automatically makes me feel so panicked and it's so fucking stupid. Why do I want to cry because my mom sends me videos to watch, or because my own body is asking me to eat?
I wish I could powerwash my brain and rinse away whatever is responsible for making me feel like this all the time. Demand avoidance is hell. And I feel like it makes me such a negative person to have to deal with. How can anyone possibly depend on me when even suggesting I do something makes me shut down?
I'm never not disappointed with myself.

i hate experiencing PDA whenever people suggest media for me to experience. like, i care about you and want to experience the things you enjoy and want me to enjoy. i want to open up my mind to new experiences and talk about your favorite show with you. unfortunately, my brain is a fan of interpreting things that aren't demands as demands, and then doing everything in its power to justify avoiding those demands. so, i'll probably het aroundto watching it next year.
having pda is so aggravating because it just sounds like you're being pedantic
"oh sorry i can't do that because you told me to do it"
what
"hey you gave me instructions and now im irrationally angry at you"
okay ??
why does this happen to me
