The humanoid races in World-in-progress keep giant-sized insects as domesticated beasts of burden, farm animals and companion animals. Still thinking of designs but main inspiration will come from beetles. It’s common to use shed eyecaps and elytras to craft jewelry and other adornments. Many are large enough that they have lost the ability to fly.

Birdfolk are talented gardeners and grow gourds that are cured and crafted into string and woodwind instruments. Their settlements are usually on high cliffsides and in the canopies of massive trees, with living bridges connecting waypoints.

Humans live by the marshes and riverbanks and harvest clay for use in homebuilding and pottery. They are also proficient fishermen and sailors. Birdfolk are largely unable to manipulate wet clay with their talons, so rely on trade with human settlements for ceramic wares. The clay in artisans’ workspaces is known to come to life from the latent magical creative energy concentrated in the space, transforming into benevolent, helpful creatures that perform tasks like holding brushes and carrying paints on their backs. These clay creatures are known as autochthons.
