oh, that's fantastic! if i'd had any idea six years ago that a joke post i made and then followed up with a real recipe was going to get shared so widely, i would have clarified that it is not generally eaten as the entirety of a meal. that is something i do, but it is because i am clinically weird about food. when my (normal) family makes it, it's always the accompaniment to a heartier main dish, usually kebabs with chicken/lamb and roasted veggies. half of the appeal of this recipe is its versatility as a side, and jokes about ancestors and ethnic authenticity aside, i don't think it's ever a problem to make a recipe how you want. my great-grandparents would have absolutely torn that shit up. my living family also love shrimp so i'll have to suggest this to them. :-) thank you for sharing!
