Today is the last day of She-Ra on Netflix. I haven't watched it in a while, except for the occasional quick scan to confirm something for a fic or a post, but it felt like it would always be there. I knew better, nothing lasts, especially something on a streaming service, but you know you always hope that this time it'd be different.
She-Ra was something I fell into. I watched the first four seasons in late 2019 when season four dropped and enjoyed them but I wasn't in the fandom. Then quarantine happened and season five dropped in the midst of that. Speaking for myself, I was really down and feeling low and then... well, season five. It sounds cheesy, I know, but that season hit me hard with its message of "Yes, things may seem hard, even hopeless, but we must be strong and brave and in the end, we win."
After being seared by, "Don't you get it!? I love you. I always have. So please, just this once... stay!" I knew I had to have more and so into the fandom I went, writing my first fic and posting just a couple of weeks later and starting this blog.
Looking back, that message, of being brave and that love matters, is one even more important today and I'm glad that it was out there for people to see. It makes me sad to know that it won't be nearly as accessible as it once was and I hope it finds a new streaming home for those who need to see that message.
This isn't even touching the queerness of it, how I've seen so many people say some variety of, "I realized that I was [insert identity here] because of this show!" or "I finally got to see myself looking back off the screen." This show is the reason I identify as nonbinary now. We need this now more than ever and while it's looking harder and harder sometimes, I try and keep faith.
If it feels like I'm writing a eulogy, it wasn't my original intent but it has become that to an extent. I quietly consign this show to the quiet file sharing reaches of the internet with hope that one day it'll come back. Am I being melodramatic? Yes, a bit, though I think it's proper for this. To paraphrase, it's so very Etherian of me. On that note, I'll end on this poem.
Ave Atque Vale (Catullus 101) by Gaius Valerius Catullus Borne through many nations and over many seas I come to these wretched funeral rites, brother mine, so that I might hand you over with a final tribute in death and speak in vain to your silent ashes, since fortune indeed has stolen you yourself away from me – alas, my brother, cruelly snatched from me. But now accept these gifts dripping with fraternal tears, handed down by the ancient custom of our forefathers as a sorrowful tribute in funeral rites, and forevermore, brother, hail and farewell!
May the fandom never die.

Black sea was before him, and he strode westward over that too, untouched by the rebellious waves just beneath his feet. And his heart felt full to bursting, for he saw ahead the shores of his island, where the armed English vessels were crowded into harbors, and the towns with their houses and new castles rose up. Beyond the shore and the headlands the land was green, no snow fell here or had fallen; the lakes and hills were all as they had been when he was a boy, they had been healed or had never been harmed, the cattle and the sheep, the running horses, the boys and the girls. He was altogether transfigured now; the hills of his own lost Tir-Oen came up into sight as though they rolled over in sleep. He saw ahead of him, crossing the land with quick steps longer than his own, the slight figure of the walking man, the courier who could never be explained, who looked back at Hugh as if to say follow. The long hill from where the poet O’Mahon summoned the pale warriors was before him now. He heard without any sound the clashing of weapons in celebration, and a woman, singing in his language without a pause for breath, the song rising and falling continuously like the far voices of seals on the sea-banks. He was known to all these, and he knew they awaited him; and when he came near, the doors of the hills were opened for him to enter in.

Just read the part where Kit died in Chain of Thorns, and I am heartbroken.
I knew it was coming, but whyyyyy?? 😭😭😭
So I made some fanart for Kit. Not my best work. Yes, I know the voyance runs is wrong, sorry about that. Enjoy, I guess!
“Sod that”… my favorite expression from now on.
Plus I was expecting this moment to take place on a Cave and under a terrible context situation because… HERONDALE STUFF. But I actually enjoy the way it developed, I was glad I got to see Cordelia being happy with James. And the way this moment is written… how can it be so tender and full of love but also like desperate and rough.
I keep blushing every time I remember James asking Cordelia “How much do you like this dress?” 😮💨
BITCHES BASTARDS NON BINARY HOES HOLY SHIT.
