my middle of the night blorbo hot take is that Bow is a die hard romantic and optimistic to the point of naivete sometimes and so, in alternative universe where he doesn't know Glimmer at all (aka is not already hopelessly in love with his childhood best friend by the time he hits the age of crushes) the most likely scenario is him getting his heart extremely broken by falling too fast and too hard for the first person who shows an interest when he's way too young and ends up disillusioned about relationships and super protective of his heart after that OR trapped in a relationship he isn't invested in out of a duty to his romantic sense of a Happily Ever After (even if he isn't happy)
