Some initial scribbles of OCs made for @b1asho 's Wreck Hounds universe! It's so damn cool. I have a lot more characters/art/rambling but these are the most complete things currently.
Lesbian snorses Ven (Scaulos/Vachaeion) and Viima (Gymtian) are here to be happy and fashionable. Viima is a nervous person in general, which is compounded by recently coming out as trans, but her partner and friends are helping her get more comfortable and confident.
Tiger is a Human Muttreazik. All I know about them is that they're sassy and have siblings.
"How did you come to look like that?"
"Idk my folks took us to the zoo a lot?"
Seafood is a staple of Ditovian cuisine and it's also one of the types of food that has the most cultural aspects tied to it. First of all in the mainstream Ditovian culture you can't eat meat or other produce from vertebrate land animals. Meat from any animal that live in water is fine and good (semiaquatic animals are case-by-case) but there's important distinguishing between freshwater and seawater ingredients and the subsequent dishes made from them. As a simple dichotomy freshwater is good, associated with the Ditovian god and other protective spirits; the sea on the other hand is bad, filled with evil gods and creatures threatening the very existence of Ditovo. Food from freshwater can be enjoyed as is or cooked in a myriad of different ways, it's varied and flavorful. Now, the sea is scary but still filled with delicious things and it's difficult to prevent people living on the coasts from providing for their families when the resources are right there and are often similar to the freshwater stuff anyway. Seafood from the sea is o.k. if it's purified before consumed, the food is washed in freshwater with some ritualistic chanting. However the type of dishes are usually different from the freshwater based ones. Salt is used very sparingly and the food is often in the form of soups, stews or transformed in some other way to not remind you of its origin. Like fishballs depicted here next to a freshwater mix platter.
Sorry if you've already answered something like this before! I love your train guys so much, they're so neat :D
I was wondering, do you know what the machina's skin and hair are made out of? Is it flesh-like, or is it hard/metallic? (And does it stay the same in their train form? Do they need to do any kind of special maintenance on themselves in either form?)
Thanks a lot!
It’s flesh life! Train people are organic and are part of the animal kingdom!
The structure of their ‘human form’ is close to ours, with some twists like having very solid bones composed of metal or organs having thick layers of muscles. Hair is keratin too, it’s just very dense and very not easy to comb… It can also be spiky!
The train form has a body structure close to bugs: it’s more of an exoskeleton.
For the maintenance part: I have no idea for now but it’s definitely an aspect I’ll love to develop!
To the surprise of no one, I'm obsessed with the raptor bugs. Still struggling a lot with their head/face anatomy, but that hasn't stopped me from making More.
Really long under the cut
First up is Sunless, a melanistic Sundyne who used to be the favorite novelty of a particular clan until some jealous members beat the everloving shit out of xer and they kicked xer out because xe wasn't the strange beauty anymore. Went through a huge period of depression and existential terror before finding a group of other "Defective Cerest" and settling in with them. Due to her overpigmentation and missing antenna and Anxiety, she has trouble communicating with most people, but Sign and speech implants help. She now makes a living doing freelance translation work, since xenolinguistics was her passion during the time she had nothing to do except be pretty.
Next are the Gay Boys. Rudo was an engineer who had a pretty charmed life as Dorest go--until he started being Weird/acting too much like a Rox: protective and aggressive where he should have been quiet and submissive. He's a tech guy and a Dorest; why should he be so loud about protecting other adult Dorest and even Rox? Inappropriate. Banished
Fridu was a farmer, content with xis quiet life. Not sure yet what got xim banished beyond maybe getting caught smooching another Dorest? Xe's the most calm and level-headed of the group, and also the most buff (Farm Lyfe ftw).
Prax was a decorated soldier until their autoimmune disorder made itself known, and they were kicked out. Small for a Rox and sickly-looking, with sunken eyes and pale flesh and scales, they didn't know what to do with themself for a while, but now they help take care of their group and also try very hard to befriend birds.
Sohrab is the only one of the group who was born outside the Empire, a Muttreazik with a very bright and lively personality. She was thrilled to meet another Rox who didn't fit the ideal image, unaware that that was a very sore spot for Prax. She is naive about a lot of Empire-flavored things, but she means well, and is very open to learning and correction.
Jora was a respected religious leader with years of experience who had begun to question the doctrine. They're outwardly a shine, but seem to be intersex, or at least have some kind of hormonal abnormality that causes their horns to split. It was easy enough to hide everything before, but things seem to have fallen apart all at once: their religious doubts strengthening, their horns outing them as Different, and them getting caught being cozy with a Drecu (arguably very innocent, but far too close than any Sundyne "should be" to any Drecu). Xe feels lucky to have just been banished; xe doesn't know what became of the other person.
ANYWAY THEY ALL FIND EACH OTHER AND MAKE A VERY WEIRD FOUND FAMILY UNIT AND I'LL PROBABLY MAKE MORE LMAO
I think Tui and Merad were the first ones I designed?
Tui is an Arasit Muttreazik who grew up in a multi-species orphanage with a lot of hexapods and hexapod media, so its brain worm decided that it also needed to be a hexapod. It has many other friends, including other Kixeli, but its BFF since early childhood is Merad, a Prectikar. It loves to climb on Merad, and Merad loves to be climbed on. They play a lot of video games, and maybe make a career of it? Idk
Tui can't really glide and I'll never draw its patterns the same but it paints itself all the time so w/e
Tiger is here again, alongside their siblings, Metrodora and Berossus (their parents probably also named Tiger after an ancient scientist but they like the silly nickname better). Fun fact: their stripes aren't from the Muttreazik changes but from residual splice genes.
Tiger uses their Mancer abilities and big cat muscles to do building/demo work. Dora doesn't use her Conduit abilities much, focusing instead on legal work to improve treatment of and accessibility for Muttreazik, especially those with less congruent bioplans. Bero does something I'm sure but I dunno what yet lmao
