@babsignal @alluras-castle hey, thanks for responding! ok, so that’s all the info i’ve been working with. also, i figured that the HC came from the fact that steven is korean? but maybe not, idk where it originated. but like, lance, hunk, and shiro’s VAs aren’t the same ethnicity as their characters, so i’m certainly not taking that as confirmation of his ethnicity, since it’s, well. not confirmation of anything beyond steven is korean.

but anyway, i by no means mean that keith can’t be korean or that people shouldn’t HC him as such. i don’t police those kinds of HC, unless the character is already confirmed as a specific non-white ethnicity, like Shiro, Lance, and Hunk are. (i.e., i think ppl should respect that their characters are confirmed to be japanese, cuban, and samoan, respectively). but like, i don’t think ppl should police HC that aren’t confirmed like that. 

my general rule of thumb: if the character isn’t confirmed as part of a marginalized group (i.e. not white, cis, het, able bodied, neurotypical, etc), then ppl are allowed to HC whatever they want. so like, ppl should respect that shiro is japanese, is an amputee, and suffers from some form of PTSD or otherwise is affected by his past trauma (all of which are addressed in canon), but things like his gender or sexuality, which haven’t been confirmed in canon (beyond the use of he/him pronouns, but that’s something that can certainly change for a person), are totally fine to HC whatever ppl want.
