My Abby laid the first egg of the flock! This is my first time having chickens and I was shocked with how excited I was to find it! 🥚

I am bias because I raised her from a egg but Willow is maybe the most beautiful chicken to have ever lived
Today's harvest.
Beautiful sunset over my little slice of heaven 😍
Something something ageism is bullshit.
That chicken right there? Her name is Henery and she is 11 years old this last spring. And she laid me an egg this morning. Because she’s fucking amazing.
“I didn’t even know chickens lived that long!” you might be thinking.
They can.
Most chickens live between 5-10 years, from what I’ve read, so Henery isn’t unique, but she’s definitely rare. She was the flock’s “rooster” as far as protection, she survived a dog attack, and (not to be maudlin) she’s seen all of her original friends die.
As far as I’m concerned, she’s earned her retirement - many times over.
In case you’re wondering, no. She’s not THE Secret Chicken. But I am tempted to call her The Immortal Chicken.
