[One of my childhood heroes, Dan Pastorini, played for the Oilers, played for the Raiders. Bad deeds like beauty, are in the eye of the beholder.]
If only there were evil people somewhere insidiously committing evil deeds and it were necessary only to separate them from the rest of us and destroy them. But the line dividing good and evil cuts through the heart of every human being. And who is willing to destroy a piece of his own heart?
Alexander Solzhenitsyn, novelist, Nobel laureate (1918-2008)
Good Deeds-Why, What, to Whom?
Quran teaches Good deeds are those deeds that bring mercy, forgiveness, blessings, pleasure and guidance of Allah. Allah informs that a believer with good deeds will be in a state of eternal bliss after death. Good deeds and righteousness are directly proportional to each other. Anyone increases the other one more. Surprisingly in verse, 2:177 Allah informs good deeds or righteousness start with a belief. This is very important because herein is the reply to what is good deeds, why good deeds and to whom good deeds. Good deeds are of 5 categories ⦁ Human to God ⦁ Human to Human ⦁ Human to Animal ⦁ Human to Plants & Trees ⦁ Human to Environment Now if we take bad deeds and the association of belief in it, we will find why Allah demands belief before good deeds. It is clear that how good deeds are associated with a faith, religion and being a Muslim, as a human.

“Only do bad deeds for good.”
How do racists sleep at night ? Genuine question. How do evil people live with themselves ? Look themselves in a mirror ? How do they talk to their loved ones knowing who they are and what they do/did ? I feel shame after telling a “white” lie, let alone be a jerk or do something bad..
Ibn Rajab [رحمه الله] said:
«وإذا كان الإنسان تسوؤه سيئته ويعمل لأجلها عملاً صالحاً كان ذلك دليلاً على إيمانه.»
❝If a person was saddened by his bad deeds and does good deeds due to this, then this is an evidence of his Eemaan.❞

[Abu Hāzim] Salamah bin Dinār al-Makhzūmi [may Allāh have mercy on him] said:
“Hide your good deeds the way you hide your bad deeds. Do not be amazed by your actions, for you do not know whether you will be [amongst those who will be] happy or wretched [on the Day of Judgment].
