Glitchy blistering pop leaves our hearts a racing as Los Angeles duo Bad Wave come at us strong with a spectacular new single named Money. Who doesn’t love money, much less a sonic currency like this synth rollicking swashbuckler? Former surf-rockers Tucker Tola and Patrick Hart, who first bonded over their love of Weezer, produces most of their own music via email despite living in the same neighborhood. After releasing glorious songs like Extraordinary, 3AM, and 1955, as well as countless other fine tracks we’ve featured on IHM in the past, the duo close out 2017 with a smashing jam in the form of Money, a vivacious whirring, squishy pouncing thriller of a pop banger. Until someone truly discovers a way to travel through time, our best method of addressing temporal wanderlust is through the fanciful scope of music. Los Angeles duo Bad Wave beams us across the decades with a lavish new dazzler named 1955. Spacey psychedelia and florescent synthpop slingshot us across a quixotic universe. We’re starry eyed for the sights we encounter as we orbit this imaginary world, one which reminds me of Disney’s Tomorrowland. As Bad Wave explains, 1955 fills us with “nostalgia for the future”, something we need when the future can feel so bleak. 1955 is out now on 10K Islands. It really is “Time to Get Lost” as Los Angeles duo Bad Wave takes us on a heady trip with their rambunctious spiraling new single, a mighty hooking eruption of woozy electronics and psych tinged turmoil. Time To Get Lost is an intense indie pop carousel ride. It’s Bad Wave’s contribution to the sea of music that has sprung up out of anxiety over America’s impending political transition. We all have much to say about the paradigm shift that faces us soon, and thankfully, there are those out there who can express those thoughts for us in spectacular fashion through music. Bad Wave captures our sense of foreboding in Time to Get Lost’s stringy orchestral final minutes. It nearly feels like we’re watching an old silent film. Suspense builds through each flutter of the violin, each wiry drawn out lament. It’s beautifully horrific.
