Attention Everyone!
It’s Yamato’s 9th birthday today!!!!
Since May is mental illness awareness month, I decided to share how Nero helps me with my worst mental illness; PTSD. I have PTSD due to extreme childhood abuse, 17 years worth of hell. Well I still get horrid flashbacks and nightmares that make me wake up in a panic and ready to fight. That’s where Nero comes in. When I have a flashback or nightmare Nero is right there ready to calm me down.
He will snuggle up close to me and start grooming me telling me “It’s OK daddy.” “You safe, I here.” and things of the sort. Having little Nero with me does wonders to calm me down after a PTSD issue. He can even tell when I’m starting to have a PTSD nightmare and will yell his head off to wake me up so it doesn’t get too bad. Any time he senses anything is off with me he will do his best to get my attention and distract me from it which helps so much.
I’m working on getting him harness trained so he can go out with me and get registered as a proper emotional aid animal. Any time anyone tells me a bird can’t be an aid animal, I just laugh at them because they’ve never seen little Nero in action. He is a great helper bird!
Mango LOVES to shred! This time it’s toilet paper but he’ll go after ANYTHING! Even if it’s important.
When I say Cassandra is a big ‘tiel, I ain’t joking. This is her standing on a 16 oz can!
Mango got a little bath. I love how his feathers act when they’re wet, makes him kinda looks like he has a little birdie beard!
Sleeping Birds
I love listening to my birds sleep. I have two sleep talkers and one snorer. Yes, I was surprised to hear Nero snore the first time too. Nero will start falling asleep and mutter to himself for a good 15 minutes before he start softly snoring and, let me tell you, a green cheek conure snoring is adorable. Then there's Lucia who will fall asleep practicing her words, stop for a bit when she falls asleep, then start talking in her sleep. During the night I'll hear her soft, gravelly voice going “Baby girrrrrl, loooove you.” and the like. It's so adorable. I'll also hear soft little kissy sounds from everybirdie during the night.
It's so relaxing to fall asleep to such cuteness and such sweet little birdie voices!
This was Storm. She sadly passed away a couple months ago from old age but she was the sweetest, most affectionate little budgie I had ever met. I miss her dearly and wanted to share her beauty with everyone.
Lucia knows she’s a pretty girl!
