Miraculous: chat noir’s nekomata power up
I had thought up and played with the idea for chat noir to have a series of multiple cat powers that I really believe the creators of the series could build on. Powers like natural cat like abilities such as “cats are liquid”, cats making “the face” and purring to help with panic attacks. Then I thought of powers associated with lore and myths about cats from around the world. Like in Egypt, cat are said to be the guardians of underworld and police and monitor the dead. Then there are beliefs that cats can actually see the dead. Thoughout history cats have been heavily associated with death. And in Japan, it is believed that cat can turn into creatures called “Nekomata” (a cat with a split tail) and gain the power of necromancy (the power to reanimate and control the dead).
I strongly believe this would be an awsome power up for chat noir and he could greatly benefit from such an ability.
Potion ingredients
*Ash’s of the dead
*Graveyard soil
*Furr from a cat
*Tear of joy
*Sacred beetle of rebirth (a scarab beetle)
Origins about the Nekomata.
It is believed in Japanese folklore that A domestic cat is said to transform into a nekomata after living for a significant number of years (sometimes cited as ten years or more) and growing unusually large. The physical sign of this transformation is its single tail splitting into two, which gives the creature its name, literally meaning "forked cat".
It is also believed that when a cat becomes a nekomata, it gains the power of necromancy (the power to reanimate and control the dead). They are often depicted using their forked tails and paws to gesture in a ritualistic dance, manipulating corpses like puppets.
Unlike some bakeneko tales that can be neutral or protective, nekomata are generally considered malevolent and hostile toward humans, often seeking revenge if they were treated poorly in life. They may use their necromantic powers to haunt or torment those who wronged them with visitations from the deceased.
So ladybug better watch herself. She has been very abusive to chat noir. And another Japanese belief is that cats can hold grudges for seven generations. Tales of cats turning into “nekomata” and “bakeneko” often involve revenge against those who have treated them cruelly.
All the more reason to be nicer to chat noir. 😈
Chat noir’s nekomata power up
With this potion power up, chat noir becomes nekomata noir and gains the power of necromancy. He is able to reanimate and control the dead to help him against the villain. One of many uses for this power is where he often reanimates the corpses of dead pigeons to be his eyes in the sky and search for things. He is able to see and hear through the corpse’s eyes and ears, allowing him to spy on or find people and things. He can reanimate dead rats to carry out tasks that would be impossible for a human to do. Tasks that would require said rat to get into places inaccessible to humans such as air vents and pipes. If he and ladybug are locked in a room and can’t get out, he can reanimate a rat to crawl into the vents to get outside the room and open the door from the outside. Or even retrieve items such as keys or other objects that they need.
Chat noir’s nekomata power can also be used on human cadavers but I’d imagine he’d refrain from doing so do to it feeling immoral, unnecessary and overall too creepy for him. He’d probably see having dead people walk around as unsettling and has not fully gotten used to the idea of having necromancy powers. When he’d first started practicing this power, he used it on store-bought chicken. He’d ease himself into reanimating the dead by trying to make it less scary for himself. And he did so by making that chicken dinner do the chicken dance. lol XD
Plagg had even joked that if when chat feels more comfortable reanimating human corpses, he could have them do the thriller dance.
His power also extends to bones as well. He can reanimate all the skeletons in the museum. His favorite to reanimate is the t-Rex. He loves making the t-Rex skeleton act just like the one from the movie “night at the museum”.
Chat noir: look ladybug! I got my own t-Rex puppy! Can I keep him?! 😃
Ladybug: 😓……chat… I don’t think the museum will let you keep it. Also I don’t think Paris will be comfortable having a t-Rex skeleton running around Paris.
Chat noir: I promise to take good care of it and feed it! 😁
Ladybug: FEED IT WHAT?! ITS A FRICKIN SKELETON! 😫
Passages from the book Supernatural Creatures, by DK, that I find particularly interesting
