Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
And last, but not least of the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Legacy figures, is the Mighty Megazord!
Since Each of the the main Power Rangers (excluding Green and White Rangers) came with a body part of the Megazord as a build-a-figure set.
So the Megazord has been what I’ve been waiting to assemble since I first laid eyes on the Legacy Power Rangers. Now their were other Power Rangers from other series mixed in with each line (with their own Megazord parts from their respective series), but I really wasn’t interested in them, I wanted the original Power Rangers, so this part of the reason why it took almost a year to finally assemble the entire team.
And what are my thoughts on the Megazord? It’s okay...Allow me to expand on this.
The original Megazord is a ‘combiner’ of sorts heralding back to the days of ‘Voltron’, or ‘Beast King GoLion’...
Actually wait....scratch that. ‘Voltron’ was made in 1884, the Japanese base from ‘Power Rangers’, or ‘Super Sentai’ started in 1975, BUT the Super Sentai season which ended up being the original ‘Mighty Morphin Power Rangers’ was after ‘Voltron’, so there’s a little fun fact for you.
ANYWAY....so the Megazord is comprised of the five Dinozords...get it? dino-SAURS; dino-ZORDS? Even though only two of them are based on dinosaurs.
Tyrannosaurus Rex (main body), Triceratops (left leg), Sabertooth Tiger (right leg), Mastodon (the back, shoulders and right and left arms) and the Pterodactyl (chest).
The Megazord is used as the last resort in the never-ending battle against Rita Repulsa and her army of monsters.
The robot: At first glance Megazord has some lanky legs, so the proportions are a little of; it’s usually a pretty stocky bot. But this Megazord stands taller than the 6in Power Rangers.
Since this Megazord is meant to be an action figure, and not meant to have the individual componants, but as the whole; the Legacy Megazord, has a lot of articulation. The head rotates, ball-jointed shoulders, elbows, swiveling wrists, ball-joint hips, ball-joint knees, and ball-joint ankles.
The sculpt of the Megazord is pretty decent in some areas, I like the torso area, however I would prefer a waist rotation, and the arms are okay, though it would benefit from a bicep rotation.
I guess my only real issue would be with the legs; they’re so long and thin.
Like i sad; The Megazord is stocky, with average, wide legs, this Megazord and I’m finding this a little off-putting for me.
I do like this Megazord, in spite of the weird proportions, but there is one things which annoys me a bit. Where is the Megazord’s power sword? I mean come on; The Megazord’s classic finishing movie is to take a mighty swing of its sword, and it doesn’t include one...
I mean, I get it that the Megazord was separated in five pieces, and each piece was included with each core Power Ranger, but not one of them could also include the sword? Like maybe give the Red Ranger, the leader both the torso AND the sword. Or maybe the Green Ranger since his accessories were the Dragon Dagger and an extra pair of hands.
But the Megazord doesn’t have closed, solid fists; yes the hands are in the shape of fists, however there are holes in the fists to allow them to hold something, yet there is nothing for it to hold. That’s disappointing.
Overall, do I like the build-a-figure Legacy Megazord; yea, I do. It’s one of the few available, and it’s nice to have a Megazord action figure sized, and it kinda works for the Power Rangers Megaforce Armored Green Ranger, and some old Robotech mobile suits.
I really liked the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Legacy figures, with the build-a-figure Megazord. I’m sure other collects might enjoy the other Power Rangers sets as well, but what I would really love to see are some 6in villains, like Lord Zedd and Goldar. I would KILL for Lord Zedd, and Goldar.
I know it might be a pipe dream, but that’s what I’m hoping to see in the future. It wouldn’t kill them to do a Dragonzord down the road too.
