Her heart dropped once her ears caught those words. Kerosene's pupils shrank into sharp diamonds, and her stomach twisted tightly as her gaze shot towards the Radio Demon. It was like the eerie calm before a deadly storm. She watched his left ear lightly move. Her heart thundered; its wild throbbing rolled over the soft pops of a needle pushing into fabric over and over and the gentle clink of a porcelain cup.

The harsh slam of the door jerked her from her tense focus on Alastor. She leaped several feet in the air at the clatter of bone hitting the hard flooring. Kerosene barely glimpsed towards the fallen deer skull before his uncanny, forcibly cheery voice struck her with another surge of panic. The petname he gave held no warmth, it was spat out, like something poisonous and vile. Regret and dread flooded the lantern demon. She just made a grave mistake.

An angry searing snaked around her throat, igniting the intricate constellations carved into her collar's leather. Her eyes stared up at the dancing stars, the heavenly lights they could never see again. It was a cruel reminder of where they were, what they turned into, and how dark her end may become. Her terrified gaze jerked back onto Alastor's face-splitting grin as her collar clung tighter and tighter around her throat.

"Al! Al, don't!" Kerosene yelped, her pulse pushed harder and harder beneath the constricting collar. The leather dug into the soft flesh of her throat. Was he really about to strangle her?!

"Alastor! Please, I--I--" She swallowed, her claws frantically tore at the cursed strip closing in on her windpipe. The digging and ripping at skin and hair were numbed by the rushing adrenaline. Despite her struggle the collar remained, unrelenting in its grip.

The saliva couldn't slide under the ever-curling collar. A gurgled groan escaped from her; her breathing grew shallower. Hot tears beaded beneath her eyes, her blood pounded against her reeling thoughts. Why, why did she say that?! "Pleee-ase! Don't!"

"Are you sure, Miss Verosika?" Don inquired quietly as he searched the surroundings for any potential escape routes.

"You told me earlier this club was safe, but it seems that was incorrect since we're trapped here." He was just doing his duties until several demons that were armed crashed the club and blocked all escape routes for some reason... Maybe it was because of his client being here?

"We need to get out of here before whoever's in charge decides to do something deadly to us."

Something shifted in his peripherals—energy, tension, heat. Rick turned just in time to catch the guy draped in a sheet, cloaked in a terrible disguise, standing out like a malware in a clean system. Recognition pinged. Blitz, right? Guy’s mug was plastered on every cursed party game within five meters, and here he was, center stage at his own roast.

Hilarious.

Hell’s booze clung thick to the glass in Rick’s hold—viscous, synthetic, probably alive. The woman next to Blitz, on the other hand, carried herself with the kind of confidence that didn’t ask for attention: it demanded an apology. Voice like currency, Rick had definitely heard it somewhere before.

Voiceprint match: Verosika Mayday. Demonic pop royalty, serial heartbreaker, walking tabloid generator, heart of every party. Rick’s HUD had tagged her three times before he blinked.

“Rough night.” The scientist approached when she was alone, leaving the other guy to his own ruin. “He your ex?” He offered his glass to the woman—could have been spiked, could have not. While mystery was part of the charm, Rick didn’t make a habit of lacing things. Not his style, really… If someone was gonna fall, they’d do it clean. “Crossed-out name on your arm kinda screams ‘fuck that guy’. The name’s Rick, by the way.”

"No... I prefer to keep a low profile, helps me to avoid getting into unwanted trouble with the overlords." Plus, he wasn't interested in having his soul taken from them in a deal, preferring to sign contracts as normal... He wouldn't take any jobs from them, not without reading the fine print first.

"But if I were to deal with them, I would do so in a professional manner, Miss Verosika." Regardless, Don did take mental notes of today's tasks.

"You need not to worry, I will remain as your bodyguard should one of them offer a better job position... And I get to keep my soul, no matter what... What are you planning to offer to the overlords you're meeting today?" He tilted his head to the left in stone-faced curiosity about the meeting.

"I'm not here to harass you... Quite the opposite, really... I'm here to help you as an ally to Mr Blitz and his company." The 'human' sinner calmly clarified his words, slowly raising his hands up in a passive innocent manner.

"As someone who resides in the Pride Ring, I know what it's like to navigate the streets of Hell, to be on guard against threats that can come in any direction... But... I also am someone who strives for peace on all sides of the Pentagram, regardless of this place being the afterlife for the damned." And there was Charlie's altruistic nature influencing him as a result of being part of the hotel.

"I want to help you ensure your safety and wellbeing in Hell, despite the losses you've suffered... To take back what's truly yours." Dismantle the system, change everything for the better.

"It's your choice, Mr Stolas... I'm not like most people here who use deal-making for their own needs... But I want to help my allies live better lives." He looked around the office, mentally hoping someone from I.M.P could come and prove that he was here to help the former Goetia Prince.

"Noted, Miss Verosika... But... If it's possible: Can you split that raise so that my co-workers also get one as well? I don't mind being paid less for my work, but I'm someone that also help those who need it, including co-workers."

Fairness still ran in Don's blood, he knew the struggles of working and getting paid little to not even being paid at all despite the hours and effort he's put in.

"You don't have to do it right now, give yourself time to think as we walk... But at the end of the day, your safety is my payment, the paycheck's just a bonus to keep myself sustained for a while."
