Happy 200th Birthday Iguanodon, and Happy Valentine's Day! This iconic European dinosaur, whose fossils have been found in Belgium, England, Germany and Spain dating from around 126-122 million years ago in the Barremian Stage of the Early Cretaceous, is celebrating its bicentennnial birthday this week, and here in what will one day be the Wessex Formation, an amorous pair of I.bernissartensis consisting of a female at the right and a male at the left bond together under a magenta sunset sky as an Istiodactylus passes by.

Honestly, trying to find unique animals that lived in one specific time frame in one specific area sometimes feels like trying to find a specific poem from 2,600 years ago in Wan Shi Tong’s library. But hey, found out about Vallibonavenatrix, the most recently named Spinosaurid since Ichthyovenator. That’s neat.

B is for Baryonyx!

Baryonyx is a Spinosaurid from England. It evolved a crocodile-like snout for catching fish, as well as large claws on its hands to hook them out of the water! Though smaller than Spinosaurus, the two were closely related.
