I saw many fans say — "Even if ogCale didn't act like trash, Basen would be just fine. His actions were so unnecessary and foolish."
Bro, how could you say Basen would be fine when we saw what Taylor had to go though? Taylor is a nobel, the first born. But he was still treated badly by others and lived in hiding.
And if you have read any other historical novel, you would know what type of people suffers the most. Some examples:
1. Someone with unknown father.
2. Someone with full or partial commoner blood.
3. Someone with no blood connection to the family they lives in.
Basen falls into all these categories. TRIPLE KILL.
•His father is unknown.
•His mother is a commoner (?).
•He has ZERO blood relation with the Henituse family.
With these types of things, he was supposed to be mistreated by the servants, beaten up by the teachers, looked down on by the nobles, made fun of by his peers, and the list goes on.
Even ogCale— who has pure noble blood, is the first born boy, spoiled and protected by the count— was almost kicked out of the house by his relatives if not for Violan and Basen. So what makes you think that Basen would be safe?!
BASEN IS A COMMONER!
HE ISN'T A HENITUSE !!
SO WHY WOULD ANYONE TREAT HIM NICELY?!!!
And don't say Deruth wouldn't have let anything happen to Basen.
He wasn't even able to save ogCale from destroying himself despite ogCale listening to him!
He wasn't even able to stop the rumours from going outside of Henituse Territory despite having so much money and power!!
You could argue that ogCale could have done something else (8 year old kid). But you SHOULDN'T argue that there was no need to do anything.
