Sending love to TMA for making it's queer characters canon. Yes, we have multiple side characters in lesbian relationships, and no, that is not their entire character. Yes, we have queer people in various contexts appear in the statements because queer people DO just exist normally.

YES our main character does canonically end up dating the man that has had a crush on him for years and yes he is canonically asexual but that doesn't change anything.

TMA Headcanon on the Archival Staff & co's childhood social lives

Jon was periodically actively bullied in primary school, especially through people pretending to be friendly and then mocking him for believing them. It's made him particularly sensitive to betrayal and suspicious of kindness.

Martin was rarely if ever actively bullied by his peers (maybe a couple times for writing poetry, or being queer), but he also very rarely if ever had friends. No one noticed him enough to bother with him.

Tim was never bullied and always had an active social life, though sometimes his boundless energy and sense of humor could be A Lot for some people to deal with

Sasha always had a small friend group and wasn't consistently targeted by bullies, but she dealt with subtle racist and sexist harassment from many of her peers. For some reason, those who were dicks to her mysteriously found their darkest secrets the subject of gossip.

Basira tended to have, zero to two good friends at a time, and coped with bullying by emotionally detaching herself completely from the situation, often by studying or reading. When she reached secondary school, she hit back very effectively one time and was mostly left alone after that.

Daisy canonically dealt with her school bully by eventually murdering him. After Calvin Benchley went wrong, she didn't have other close friends, though she wasn't an outcast or anything

Georgie usually had a good friend group, but dealt with social bullying along class lines and probably also for being a nerd. Even though the school wouldn't intervene, but her parents made sure she had therapy and as much support as they could give her. It didn't keep her from being envious of the cool kids, but it does make her the most emotionally stable person in Jon's adult life

Melanie was 100% getting into fights with her bullies (and anyone who told her she couldn't do something because she's a girl) regularly.

In other news: Martin continues to depress me though it is extremely interesting that the closer he gets to the Lonely the more self-assured he seems to be? Him telling Jon to calm down and tell him what he wants in this straight forward way really made me feel Some Type Of Way, but I guess you aren't nervous when you don't care that much anymore?

(Though lol @ Martin thinking he doesn't care about Jon at all, when the first thing he instinctually says is that Jon looks terrible with all his care-taking instincts on full blast)

Also absolutely delightful that he managed to look through Jon's bullshit, though I do think that if he'd said yes Jon would have gone for it - heartbreaking tbh. I don't foresee him resisting taking a live statement as it were for much longer though - clearly just as with Daisy he's wasting away (also man Basira What Are You Doing - I'm on your side normally but Jon was pretty right to be all bitchy that you're fine letting Jon die of Hunger, but Daisy you want to let hunt...)

Synopsis:

When Jon walked back into the Archives after the worm siege, he expected to see a mess. He expected to see a strange trapdoor, and he expected to see his possibly-murderous assistants. He absolutely did not expect to see a ghost. His first thought is a string of curses. His second thought is fear. His third thought wipes out any trepidation; does this ghost know who the killer is? It's a shame she can't remember anything. The ghost is yet another mystery to solve, and it's a distraction from the question of who killed Gertrude. The secrets are really starting to pile up around the Archives - someone really ought to get started on sorting them out. Unfortunately for Jon, that someone is him.

Review: I will do anything for a happy ending. This technically checks that box while also diving into more of the lore of the universe and pushing season 1 Jon to trust his friends. 10/10
