Some theories about Simon's swordsmanship
So in Wayward Son we got to see how frickin BADASS Simon is with a sword and I've recently started to learn about swords and I have some thoughts about it
So the sword of mages is most likely an arming sword which is just your typical, double-edged blade that you think of when you hear "knight sword".
However, there's a couple different main types of arming swords.
The first could be the single handed arming sword which you wield with one hand
This kind of sword only fills up one hand so it frees up the other hand to hold a shield or the reigns of a horse. But based on the fact that Simon mentioned to Penny that he doesn't use shields and obviously he's not riding horses anywhere, I'm going to guess that he's not usually using this type of sword.
Another possible type that you've probably heard the name of before is the longsword. The most significant difference between these two swords is that the longsword is a two-handed sword so it has a much longer hilt. Obviously the blade itself is much longer too.
This one I don't have a lot of evidence to refute but there are probably times in the books where Simon uses his other hand to do something while still wielding the sword. With all its extra material, the longsword is pretty difficult to wield with only one hand. Also, I honestly just can't imagine the sword of mages being a longsword.
I actually think that Simon uses a Bastard Sword. This sword is also known as a "hand and a half sword. It's kind of like a cross between a longsword and a single-handed sword. The blade is not quite as long as a long sword but still relatively long.
It's useful because it can be wielded with either one or two hands. Maybe I'm a little biased because this is my favorite kind of arming sword, but I feel like this is the kind of sword Simon would use.
Please share your thoughts!! I'm not an expert and I pretty much learned all this stuff from youtube and google so if there's anything incorrect let me know!!

He was distracted and tired so please forgive him that he didn’t notice his other self deciding to be an absolute monster and tackling him. He wheezes so loudly when he feels the hit and only trough sure force having learned from taking full force tackles from a nidoking that he stays standing.
“Are you.. tryna make... me pop ah lung kid?” He wheezes out slowly.
