An Over-Grown Bat of the Dungeons
Sorry I’m late! HC where Asian!Snape acquires a familiar after spending a holiday back home, because why not?
“Albus, I have acquired a familiar during the holidays.” Severus whispered just as Albus finished the faculty meeting.
“That’s wonderful news, Severus!” The Headmaster beamed at him and Severus felt the nee to look away. Several other staff were curiously listening as they gathered their stuff.
Severus licked his lips, “I know Headmaster. It simply would not leave me alone, I admit it isn’t one of the regular familiars we have here.”
Here it comes. Severus took a deep-breath.
“It’s a bat, Headmaster.”
Poorly stifled laughter burst from several parts of the staff room and Snape glared. “The familiar chooses the wizard, isn’t that right?” Pomona stage-whispered to Minerva.
“I assure you that the bat will not harm the students, I’m not quite sure about the staff...”
“Oh come now, Severus. We were only teasing you.”
“What kind of bat is it exactly?” Flitwick asked curiously.
“Nothing that came from around here.” Severus smirked at them. “I have scanned it and confirmed that it has traces of magic, very rare in it’s species. And it’s particular species is rare as it is.”
“We’ll make sure that your familiar has everything it needs. Such a small creature won’t be a problem at all surely.” Albus smiled.
“I’m not sure about that.” Severus drawled before whistling, calling for his new friend.
Screams could be heard just outside the door and all the professors stood up, wands in their hands. Snape lazily got up and moved for the door.
“What is that thing? It’s going to eat me!”
“I saw that the other day, and you didn’t believe me!”
“That has to be Snape’s animagus form, run!”
“It’s a demon, you moron! Get out of the way!”
Severus was in the verge of tears as everyone physically took a few steps back, all pale faced. “This is a golden-crowned flying fox and he is now my familiar. Please dispel any rumors the students have been spreading about sighting me as an animagus. He only eats fruits so don’t worry, he won’t bite, unprovoked.”
It was quite a sight seeing Snape with his billowing cloak and a giant bat flying beside him.
The bat can reach up to 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) in weight and 1.7 m (5.6 ft) in wingspan. I honestly think that thing is a source of many folktales about monsters eating people in the provinces.
I couldn’t help myself. I needed to let out some steam.
