ariadne martha andromeda wayne aradia mahina knew no one. out of the hundred-something kids in this whole camp for kids with adhd and dyslexia—(“children of the ancient deities,” her mind helpfully supplied)—supposedly outcasted like her, she knew absolutely no one. after fighting a cyclop and being constantly dirty and bloody, then finding her whole world to be upside down by the fact that she didn't have one but two dads, one of whom was the god of the underworld, and living in said underworld for two weeks, she didn't particularly fancy making new friends.
and they were scary, alright? kids who knew how to fight with swords and knives and bows and arrows and ones who could smash your face into the ground and make you eat dirt and apparently loved scaling a rock wall, which had actual lava in it (ignoring the fact her family back home went out every night to make sure no crime was in gotham and probably knew all of that and more). she wasn't even that social to begin with, and going to someone to voluntarily spark up a conversation was an absolute nightmare.
yet, there was this girl. (well, yeah, there were multiple girls you have to be more specific than that), one with blonde hair always in braids, but she had glimpsed at princess curls underneath, and the brightest grey eyes she had ever seen. and she was ethereal. aradia had pointedly ignored how she had looked—and felt looking— at the girl, quite literally gobsmacked, and how her face had turned the same colour as her hair, flaming red , when she was getting shown around the camp by her guide, luke? lukas? whatever his name. when he followed her line of sight, his eyes had softened and said her name was annabeth chase, daughter of athena. she had been at camp far longer than about anyone, since she was seven, and they were ‘siblings’. well, she could respect that, but she had kinda gotten jealous. maybe due to how that had reminded her of her own brothers, dick and jason, or maybe because she had wanted to get closer with annabeth, too.
she always caught annabeth just hanging around at the corner of her eyes and had pretended that aradia herself wasn't the one unconsciously always seeking her out. it was embarrassing to admit, but she had gotten the biggest friend (? sure about that?) crush on the chase girl. she had wanted to throw herself into the lava when she realized and it made her scream into a pillow because of how awkwardly shy she always got around her!
the last bit of her pride had finally been diminished to literally wisps of it when she made eye-contact with annabeth and then got so flustered that she tripped (ran) away from arts and crafts. . . . .
(since I ran out of tags, I just wanna say I was having the time of my life while writing this but then got hit with writers’ block and this accidentally got posted. . . should I continue this or is this enough?)
The Bat in the center is actually a sideways lightning bolt (because of my powers). There are many pockets so everything fits comfortably inside and doesn't restrict my movement by being to bulky.
Candy
The little mini kinds that get handed out to kids on Halloween. I mostly patrol in the daytime so i'm 50x more likely to run into kids on patrol, so I keep some sweets on me to hand out to them.
Money
This is mostly for if I get hungry and want to stop and get a snack. Or if I see some street performers/homeless people etc. The food stands and restaurants usually insist that I don't pay them but i mean...obviously i'm gonna pay them.
Pocket knife
I do have superpowers so this is usually for practicality and not defense (if I need to cut some ropes or something like that). But if i ever end up in a situation where my powers are dampened it could be useful.
Mirror and Lipgloss
Ya girl can't have dry lips on patrol babe. It's bad for the brand. Plus the mirror can come in handy when I need to look behind me/around a corner without actually turning around.
Grappling hook
For grappling. No further explanation needed. I can fly but grappling is lowkey fun so I keep it on me. Also, flying whilst carrying other people poses some problems because one wrong move and they get electrocuted so grappling helps in those situations.
Mini med kit
Most people don't have super healing like me and Duke, so having this on me is helpful to treat civilian wounds until an ambulance can come get them/ we can get them to a hospital.
Water bottle
It's super small so I can carry it easily, but that unfortunately means it doesn't hold much water :( But it's okay if i really need it I can stop by somewhere to get some.
Camera
When working on actual cases I need the camera to get pictures of suspects/evidence over long periods of time so I use my camera. (It's also used for taking peak pictures of me from on top of buildings)
Window breaker
I'd rather not break a window with my hands (even tho I easily could), so I carry this incase I need to help someone out of a vehicle, or break into somewhere.
Smoke bombs and Flash bangs
They look the same, but have different engravings on the handle. I keep them in separate pockets anyways so I don't get confused. They're used as diversions if I need to make a stealthy get away, or scare away some nere-do-wells from committing a crime.
Lock picking equipment
Used to pick locks if i need to get into somewhere I "shouldn't be" without leaving an obvious sign behind; like broken glass, or a missing handle.
