I miss when batfamliy was niche. I don't know when TikTok ruined Jason Todd or even found out about other Robins. To my knowledge Nightwing had always been some sort of staple for those people who never touch a single comic book as a "fan favourite" and they always say "I grew up with teen titans" yet are some of the most insufferable people who don't even care about the plot / characters beyond attraction.
If anyone remembers Jason Todd was a hated Robin way back. Yes, when he debuted during 1983, widely known to fan as a "Dick Grayson 2.0. " He was seen as a bad replacement, and most fans didn't like him.
Before having the depth he does today, he was a similar upbeat Robin at the time. Hence, all the criticism fans were making that in 1986–1987 (post-Crisis) → DC rebooted Jason into the "angry street kid."
But still, he faced an enormous amount of hate for being too "aggressive" in nature for a boy-wonder. He didn't fit the Robin role the way Dick Grayson did.
It is also one of the reasons DC held the infamous phone poll. They we're willing to cut off a character based on the majority. It Is important to remember that comics run outside of the fictional world, and how they are marketed is important to which we're hitting the shelfs or not. Jason, at the time, was not exactly giving them a good look. (they even received fan letters complaining about it.)
As much I'd love for one of my favourite characters to be famous, I am deeply disappointed with what kind of audience he has reached. Jason Todd became water down to a fangirl favourite, just like the way the COD "fan" treats Ghost and König.
This has led to a hefty amount of mischaracterization and even placing him in the "angry boy" stereotype just like they did back then. He has layers to his characters, and I wish they'd try to read something before spreading misinformation. (same goes for the Batfamliy.)
With that being said, It doesn't take much but a spark of sheer interest. I am a really young DC fan who didn't existed during the era he was created, (and I am not going to make that claim either.) I've been passionate about them for 2-3 years now and I've learned that you don't need to be a walking trivia, but please consider caring about their likeness beyond a surface level take on TikTok or finding them attractive soley for their aesthetics. I know others can find to love Jason Todd the way I always did.
Don't let this discourage you to read DC or Batfamliy, I really just want a fan base that can geek out about different continuity and our personal takes on that matter.
Thank you for your time - sincerely, a Robin fan.
