im having stupid damian wayne thoughts hours and i cannot escape
he's baby. he performed a year of abominations before losing most of his baby teeth. he has a complicated relationship with his mother, who actually has enough screentime to be a complicated person, unlike so many other mothers and mother figures. he was conceived by either rape or a failed marriage depending on which canon you follow. he was nearly adopted by his oldest brother, who is actually deeply aware that he's not ready to be a parent yet and is torn between grief and relief that it never actually had to happen. he speaks like a caricature of formal english. he taught wonder woman's daughter every swear word she knows completely unintentionally. he has an unspecified accent. he keeps getting whitewashed. half the fandom is convinced that he's biologically inherently evil. he's a vegetarian for reasons of his own personal morality but is not vegan. he's obsessed with animals and keeps collecting more of them. he watched the closest thing he had to a loving grandfather get his neck snapped in front of him and has held himself personally responsible ever since. he's his universe's version of a swiftie. he reads shojo manga and naruto. he's decapitated men too many times his age. he died and went to hell before hitting his teens. he draws stupid little comics of his si/oc being a protagonist. he and his father may or may not be autistic depending on which fans you ask, we'll certainly never know. dc's writers are obsessed with giving him identity crises. he named his turkey jerry and his cat alfred and his cow batcow. he has an artificial spine. he has the potential to be blorbo of all time if people would stop forgetting that he's a child instead of the monster who replaced their favorite robin.
i just. i can't stop thinking about this.
the funny thing about being in the batfam fandom is that everyone hates someone in the batfamily. almost without exception.
You know when we say "DC stands for disregard canon" we are talking about times where characters were OOC or had bad characterization in general due to a number of factors (prop up another character, writer not knowing enough about them, writers that are misogynistic/classist/psychophobics etc), not making shit up and pretending fanon and canon are the same.
You can't disregard a source material you never read to begin with.
i could probably write an essay about the over reliance on OCs in the batfandom, and how it's overall pretty harmful to your storytelling if the only established characters you have are bruce, dick, jason, tim, damian, and sometimes alfred, but it would probably just boil down to annoyance at "rich socialite #4 whos only personality trait is being rich" at a Rich Person Party, when you know that j. devlin davenport would play that role to perfection but there's not a single reference in sight??
I love the Gotham Irregulars, but I miss Colin Wilkes
Well, let’s start from the beginning:
Currently, in the 2023 Batman and Robin series by Phillip Kennedy Johnson, we were introduced to the Gotham Irregulars — a group of street kids who assist Batman and Robin in urban missions, infiltrations, and investigations where adult vigiants/ Police ou People who don't exactly know Gotham like they do don’t quite fit.
Perhaps inspired by the Baker Street Irregulars from Sherlock Holmes?lock Holmes?
Anyway, they receive guidance and support from Batman, who takes on an almost godfather-like role.
Their dynamic with Batman — especially with Damian — and even their brief moment alongside Jonathan Kent made many fans grow even more attached.
(Myself included.)
However…
# Colin Wilkes (Abuse)
Colin Wilkes, known as Abuse, is a character created by Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen who debuted in Detective Comics #847 (1937)
An orphan, Colin endured deep trauma, including phobias, abandonment issues, and unstable experiences in foster homes.
Kidnapped by Scarecrow, he was subjected to experiments with a synthetic version of Venom — the same steroid that grants superhuman strength to Bane.
This resulted in powers that allow him to transform into a gigantic and extremely strong form when triggered, resembling a childlike and unstable version of the Hulk or Solomon Grundy
(Scarecrow intended to use him as a kind of weapon against Batman, believing he wouldn’t hit a child — forgetting that hitting someone is far from the only method the Bat uses to win a fight.)
Despite his tragic origin, Colin chose to use his abilities to protect the vulnerable.
Adopting the codename Abuse, he became a street vigilante who prioritizes defending the weak, even though his monstrous appearance makes him feared.
His greatest relevance, however, lies in his relationship with Damian Wayne.
In Batman: Streets of Gotham, Colin was Damian’s first true friend outside the Bat-Family.
(Of course, no one surpasses our beloved Superboy, BUT ANYWAY.)
The two practically met while investigating Victor Zsasz, who was exploiting children in deadly fights.
This friendship was further explored in stories like Batman: Li’l Gotham, where their dynamic is portrayed in a light and affectionate way.
Although Colin remains canonical within the DC Universe — even making a brief appearance alongside Cassandra Cain in a comic — he hasn’t received significant use since his original stories.
(this last comic (・ั﹏・ั) )
I truly miss him, especially now that Damian’s supporting cast (and circle of friends) is expanding. It would be a valuable opportunity — at least to me — for DC to reconnect a rich and underused character to a current narrative that celebrates exactly the kind of hero he represents.
hello! now that I'm back from vacation, I wanted to show off my crafts.
first, please appreciate my BatBlobs
inspired by the various comic depictions of Batman as Blob of Night, I make these out of clay. they're 2.5 to 3 inches tall, very Shaped, and fun to hide around the house like so.
sometimes I am cheeky and add Robin eyes.
but wait, there's more!
I also make batroyshkas, because I kept having visions of Big Bat guarding his little family and I could not let the epiphany pass
but I could only find affordable blanks that went up to 7 dolls so then of course I had to do an alternate set to celebrate The Robins
as one does
but then I had too much fun toting Tiny Alfred from the original set and putting him in Situations, so then I had to make More
and also wrote a fic about him, because why not
you know, when I told myself I needed to find a new hobby in 2025, this is not what I anticipated, but I'm not mad about it
Tim Drake could be Robin forever and I really couldn’t care.
He could get a new superhero identity.
I think a lot of people forget that because these are comic books these characters are never going to consistently grow like a normal person.
They’re not going to get married and have a kid unless it is a specific timeline bullshit that’s happening.
You are always going to be bouncing between a different parts of their life, depending on writer, continuity, ect.
This is why I kind of find it funny when so many people are like Damian’s becoming a doctor he’s going to you know do whatever!
He will be a doctor for 20 minutes until he needs to fight with Batman again for some reason.
Personally, I do not ever want these characters to get a happy ending. That means these characters will be retired and they’re going to come up with new ones or something.
I’m more than ok with us forever being in the same like four years of time in comics.
Don’t get me wrong. I love exploring them having children getting married a new era of heroes.
But that’s me doing fandom shit.
I don’t want DC to do that. I do not trust them to give them children that don’t suck.
They will marry the randomness people.
Can you imagine them deciding to give Jason a family?
His kid probably would be like decent? I cannot even picture who they would end up making him marry?
I would love to see like Mari Grayson again but only if she was a badass who takes after her badass, mom and dad.
Is marrying Lian! Not her fucking uncle!
