Batman # 53

Review by Dani:
This was the issue I have been waiting for. I have been saying since Batman 48 that I wanted Bruce to really do some self-reflection; and we got that in this issue. This issue was very emotional as Bruce spoke honestly with 11 citizens of Gotham about Batman. Bruce has finally come to the realization that Batman alone cannot fill the voids in his life. Batman cannot bring him peace. Batman cannot bring him love. Batman cannot bring him happiness. The symbol that he originally thought gave him salvation has actually left him damned. Behind the cape and cowl is a man. He is not God.
There was a humbleness in this issue that we rarely get to see in Bruce; and after Red Hood 25, I’m glad we finally see it. It annoys me that Bruce judges Jason so harshly when he operates outside the law as well. If the GCPD wanted to start doing their jobs, all of the Batfamily would be in jail for life; considering all the crimes they commit on a nightly basis. But because Jason takes it that one step further, Bruce looks down on him in judgement and condemnation. People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.
I am looking forward to seeing where Batman goes from here as he’s about to see some dark times ahead with Dick and possibly Damian.

batman #53 (2018)
This has been the fucking realest issue of Batman I've read in a long time. Cold Days as a whole has been a phenomenal insight to Bruce's headspace.
I for one have always viewed Bruce Wayne as the mask and Batman as the man... its honestly really tragic to watch him struggle to figure that out for himself.
