You’re gonna shake your ass, you’re gonna scratch your head, and then you’re gonna smile. —Pat Smith After logging hundreds of hours together in a cramped van, the members of Battlehooch have developed a fluid listen system, complete with vetoes, to ensure everyone has a fair shot to play what they like while they’re on the road. Noisepop used to do this really cool thing where thy had local artist and writers interview the bands for “sequential reporting.” Basically comics to review the shows. Danger Bob and I had the pleasure of interviewing Battlehooch. I have no idea how we cut a 45 minute interview down to one page, gods help us we did it.

I’ve got a real treat for my readers today. Behold Battlehooch, a San Fran six-piece with a sound that is big, bold, and very very fun. Drawing on everyone from Syd Barrett to Tame Impala, the band describes their music as “a mutant strain of kaleidoscopic rock & roll.” If that doesn’t pique your curiosity, I don’t know what will. Listen to their 2013 full-length Hot Lungs or last year’s Wink EP and you’ll hear a dazzling variety of colorful instruments and effects. “Joke” sports a hearty dose of badass saxophone, “Hope” has the spunky bounce of classic Elvis Costello, and “Carry Me Upstream” is druggy, groove-centric bliss not unlike Dandy Warhols.
The band is currently on an East Coast tour with stops in NYC and Pennsylvania this coming week. If you’re in that neck of the woods, do check these guys out. Prepare to dance your ass off.
#Battlehooch visuals really hitting me rn
