        elijah’s eyes lingered on her, the weight of her words settling heavier than he wished to allow. the resolve in celeste’s gaze stung, though his expression betrayed only the faint tightening of his jaw, the quiet ache buried.

       "if you walk away now, celeste," he murmured, "you reduce what we are to a passing indulgence. is that what you truly believe us to be?" perhaps it was selfish of him to not let her go. to keep wanting her around. but he was happy to have her around; to be with her. his hand hovered, almost reaching for hers, but stopped just shy of the touch.
