Let me put yall on something real quick! This app lets you scan and search products to see if they are on the BDS boycott list or not!
This is what it looks like in the app store.
When you open the app you will be given this screen where you can search for brands and products.
After scanning the barcode or searching for a brand you will be shown one of two popups.
The app will tell you if the product or brand is part of the boycott. For this example I used Kraft and Snyder's.
The app also has a link to donate directly to Palestinian organizations at the bottom of these screens as well as further information about the BDS Boycott.
Please share this resource and use it to double check any purchases.
I know many of us are taking part in a massive strike and are trying to stop/limit spending as much as possible, but this is a great resource to double check where the money you spend on necessities goes.
The BDS movement just called for a boycott on Xbox. This is because Xbox makes up a large portion of profits for Microsoft, which is currently aiding the occupation in its genocide. Candy Crush and Minecraft as a whole are part of the boycott as well, since they are owned by Microsoft.
Xbox users: you can continue playing the games you already own since you are not giving them any more money. But if you have a game pass subscription, cancel it. If you really want to buy any games in the meantime, buy them secondhand on Mercari, Ebay, or a similar reseller site where the money won’t go to Microsoft. Same goes for merchandise.
I know many of us are very enthusiastic about a lot of Amazon prime exclusives. I'm not going to deny that there are genuinely good shows hosted on that site. But no matter what, do not use Amazon prime.
Watch these shows some other way if you have to. Commit piracy, wait and get a DVD, do whatever you need to do. But do not even touch Amazon Prime. Amazon is directly funding apartheid and genocide of the Palestinian people.
I want to be clear that I still don't and will never support Disney because of the BDS boycott, but I do want to give attention to the way that they're censoring and erasing trans rep in Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur.
This was for a character who has already shown up in the series before and is not even the only trans character in it. The artists behind this are being silenced by Disney's choice here which is not at all surprising but nonetheless disappointing.
Take this as yet another reason to refuse to give any support or aid to a company that repeatedly chooses genocide. I've seen a lot of talk about the episode but I would like people to take this as an opportunity to join in on an ongoing movement if they have not already.
If you were not aware previously, Disney is a pressure target on the BDS movement boycott list. BDS has also called to boycott Marvel as well.
BDS is a Palestinian led movement to see an end to genocide and occupation in Palestine. Per their site:
The BDS movement actively calls for pressure campaigns against these targets. This includes boycotts when reasonable alternatives exist, as well as lobbying, peaceful disruptions, and social media pressure.
With this in mind, I encourage anyone who hasn't already done so to cancel anything Disney related, not buy any of their products, no longer financially support them or any of their related media and to spread the word and make sure people are informed about them being a BDS pressure target.
Ideally this would also mean not giving them free advertising either, but even just cancelling anything you have tied to them goes a long way.
The boycotts are designed with the recognition of the scale of reach and wealth many of these companies have, so in addition take note of the others.
if even one person reading this cancels a Disney+ subscription they have and uses that to support someone in Palestine, donate to a Black, Latine, or any trans person in need right now, that's about $120 a year that made a difference for them.
If you want to support artists, we have several movements dedicated specifically to workers rights in animation and film/TV as it is that need focus as well. Their struggle shouldn't be used as a wedge to overlook genocide.
If you want to replace the media, there's piracy options in place.

Any kind of anger I feel about how they treated a TV show and the representation it holds is a mere fraction compared to anyone that supports genocide. The easiest thing you can do to make someone's difference a material reality is practice what you preach.
One of the central ideas in the narrative of the Moon Girl episode is that playing by the rules of the oppressor is a losing battle because they always change the terms. It's not about logic or fairness--it's power.
So with that in mind, the absolute least you can do is drop any subscription you may have if you have one and use those funds to support those displaced, injured, hungry, and disabled by genocide.
There are plenty of real Black, Latine, and AfroLatine trans women and girls who need resources right now that crowdfund here and on every social platform who would benefit far more from any money going toward Disney or their products.
I can't put into words how sad it is to post crowdfunds of my friends and people in need of support and only seeing them gain more traction when you share about them being dead later rather than their needs now when they're alive.
Instead of supporting Marvel or Disney, use this as an opportunity to channel your resources where it'll make more of a material difference.
Marvel’s animated comedy series to get way more attention now that someone’s trying to hide it
Here's the episode in question if you want to archive it.
a banned episode of Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur Season 2
I'm trying to be as genuine as possible here--I understand the feeling people have toward this being censored especially because it's specifically a narrative centered around non-white trans people. But we can't talk about that without first recognizing Disney's complicity in genocide.
This isn't a dig at anyone else who posted either and I don't assume that everyone, especially since this is media marketed primarily at children is even aware of BDS, what they're boycotting, and why.
This is an opportunity to channel those feelings in a way that makes a difference.
(PS if you're crowdfunding feel free to hijack this post, especially Palestinians and trans people)
You may have recently seen a post like this, stating that Sanrio supports Israel and operates 18 stores there.
This post is full of OLD AND OUTDATED INFORMATION AND MISINFORMATION some of which comes from a 2011 article from when the stores were just opened in Isreal. Like with pretty much every other country outside of Japan, Sanrio no longer operates stores in Israel and hasn't for YEARS, to the point that Israelies have even made several past petitions for the stores to come back (none of which have worked) and have stated that Sanrio stuff is not widely found there.
The part about "Hello Kitty Land Tokyo" staying open admist the pandemic is ALSO false, as 1) Japan pretty much closed every and all theme parks immediately admist the pandemic and 2) the theme park isn't even called Hello Kitty Land Tokyo, it's called SANRIO PUROLAND.
Here's a tiktok from user anjeezyalmighty breaking down the original boycott post's outdated and misinfo as well:
https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZT8EpxSkf/
TLDR; I'm not telling you to boycott Sanrio or not boycott them but please know that the post going around is NOT an official Sanrio statement nor would they ever make an official statement usually because Sanrio never does when it comes to anything like this. The post is also full of old info and straight up bullshit, and Sanrio no longer operates stores in Israel nor have they for years. Please be careful in sharing boycott posts without prior knowledge on their validity as there are in fact, people who will try to throw random companies under the bus to lower morale and get people to stop boycotting altogether. Thanks.
If anyone has more info please let me or others in the community know.
This was in Nazi Germany back in the 30s. Do you think Humanity has learned anything from this?
No, no they have not.
This time, they're hiding their antisemitism under the guise of "Liberation for palestinians" and "Fighting apartheid" which is bullshit. They've disguised their antisemitism as "Antizionism" and replacing the word "Jew" with "Israeli" or "Zionist".
All over my city I've seen boycott Israel posters all around Jewish areas and businesses, most with no ties to Israel.
If you really want to help the humanitarian situation in Gaza, donate to a charity which won't give the money to Hamas, don't boycott businesses owned by Jews because some casual antisemites want you to.
If you actively choose to be part of the BDS movement, you are no better than the Nazis in the images above boycotting Jewish businesses. You are no better than the people who would label Jewish businesses and smash their windows in. It's vile.
Can i ask what starbucks did to cause such wide scale boycott efforts? I saw the thing with the union, but i can't find anything else.
The union thing is definitely the origin of the Starbucks boycott, but at this point it's inflated to become a big symbol of continuing public participation in boycotts. I went looking a while ago for the same reasons you did, and read this article which goes into more reasons why I personally won't ever frequent Starbucks (not that it's particularly hard for me) like how it's birth as a drink originated in Muslim and Arab communities before it was adopted into white culture.
You do bring up a good point though, how a lot of boycott efforts focus on Starbucks and Mcdonalds (which IS on the BDS boycott list, and we should keep up boycotting their food). Sometimes it can be hard to keep track of, so i think a lot of people will be happy to know that there is now an app called No Thanks that will identify products that support Israel.
Allowing users to scan products and determine whether they support Israel, a new mobile application named "No Thanks" is taking the digital
You can scan barcodes and get it verified whether the product itself has ties to Israel. There is also a website equivalent here.
