Among the many amazing aspects of the Hadestown pro-shot, one of my favorites is the way Patrick Pages injury provides an excellent example of how disability does not have to be barrier to musical theatre. The way his injury was presented, especially in Hades and Persephone's dance, shows how with enough care, choreography and blocking can be modified for a disability and still present a beautiful story. In fact, the pro-shot shows how disability can not only be accommodated, but also utilized for characterization and storytelling.
THIS!!! His injury actually added so much to the character and the show. Disability is not a detriment to theater or storytelling, it can and will add so much and should be welcomed and treated with care.
Every so often online you’ll hear about a woman who spilled McDonald’s coffee on her lap that sued McDonald’s. It’s touted as the prime example of a frivolous lawsuit, and McDonald’s have put in a lot of money to spin the case that way.
I'm sick of seeing that lie peddled by clickbait news sites and popular accounts trying to ridicule her with "Oh you didn't expect coffee to be hot?".
What actually happened should radicalise you.
In 1994, Stella Liebeck, who was 79 years old, spilled coffee on her lap while in the passengers seat of the car. The coffee was dangerously hot and caused third-degree burns over 16% of her body including her inner thighs and genitals.
*Warning - Very graphic images of the burns*
Image 1.
Image 2.
Stella originally tried to settle with McDonald's for the cost of her medical care - $20,000. They only offered her $800.
Throughout the case it was discovered that McDonald's were selling coffee between 30-40 degrees higher than other places. That change in temperature causes third-degree burns much faster, if it had been from somewhere else she would have had roughly 20 seconds to wipe away the coffee and avoid third-degree burns.
McDonald's were behind the smear campaign against her, so whenever you see anyone spread their misinformation, you can now correct them.
Reblogging because I’ve just seen someone doing McDonald’s PR for them *again*
informative post i made for instagram regarding the catastrophic earthquakes here in my country but i thought i'd share it here too

if anyone would like to help with what’s one of the worst tragedies that has happened in my country, here’s a good place to donate. there are still many people trapped in collapsed buildings and so many people have lost their homes. anything helps.
Hi Vio, do you know of any reputable organizations that take donations for heatwave relief in India?

you can donate as less as $2 and it'd make much difference and even if you cannot just keep talking & spreading awareness!!
huge fan of the depth of a good purple but another area that draws me is definitely around aquamarine/turquoise/seafoam. you can not go wrong once the green starts getting just a tinge more blue. a gal could certainly do worse than to pull over there and stay a while
something earth shattering going on here
this is why one of my favorite all-time paintings is Ship in Stormy Seas by Ivan Aivazovsky... he was really onto something there

Do not forget that discord is still planning on moving forward with age verification and has only "delayed it" until "the later half of 2026." They are hoping you will forget while they quietly roll it out when no one is looking. Continue to message them about it. Continue to talk about it. Make it clear this is unacceptable. Discord is one of the only places left you can even talk about or share adult content in private at scale anymore. They will tell you "its not that bad if you dont use it for nsfw" but fuck them and fuck people who say that shit.

American libraries continue to be targeted by Trump and his cronies. Via the American Library Association:
The White House has once again used its budget request to attempt to eliminate funding for critical library programs. We have the opportunity right now to urge Congress to reject that request by including robust funding for library services in next year’s budget (FY27). Senators only have until April 17 to add their signatures to letters asking Senate budget leaders to support funding priorities (like library services), so we need them to act now. Make a call today to urge both your Senators to sign onto the letters in support of the Library Services and Technology Act, operated by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, and the Innovative Approaches to Literacy program, administered within the Department of Education! As always, please consider taking a few seconds to personalize the call script.

Friends in the USA, you may have heard of HR 7661, the nationwide censorship bill being called the "Stop the Sexualization of Children Act." This act does nothing to protect children, and is part of ongoing efforts to censor books about queer people, sex education, and anything else that American conservatives want to erase.
If you're looking for a way to help fight against censorship in the USA, the organization Authors Against Book Bans has put together a script for calling your representatives. If you aren't sure who your representatives are, the script link includes a tool to find them.
If you're a writer, editor, illustrator, or otherwise involved in book production, you can also join Authors Against Book Bans to access further resources for fighting censorship.
Funds for Haiti and Haitian Americans
A Haitian American woman with long Covid and her daughter with cancer have both been struggling to raise funds that would help them during their illnesses. Both of them live in the Midwest, which is where a lot of the most recent fear mongering has been centered.
COJEHA is a Haitian organization that provides financial support for youth, teaches agricultural skills, helps ensure children attend school, and teaches other soft life skills. They're working on building a farm with fish and vegetable crops where teaching occurs, which will also increase local access to fresh food.
P4H Global is the organization that has been working on building the canal connected to the Massacre River, another agricultural project. They have also been working to support education in Haiti, with both teachers and students.
The Haitian Community Center in Springfield, Ohio. Springfield's food bank, community health center, and a local Catholic organization that provides aid are also accepting donations.
Richard Pierrin is a journalist who has had to flee Haiti and is trying to get a visa that will allow him to work, and that doesn't end after 3 months.
Marc Henry and his family have been dealing with food insecurity for months, and are trying to get funds so they can eat, as well as supplies like livestock and fishing equipment so they can sustain themselves even after the fundraiser is done. They're close to their goal.
An elderly couple's home was damaged multiple times over the last few years and they are trying to raise funds to finish construction. They are also very close to their goal.
A fundraiser for children in Jacmel to provide food, water, and clothes.
A fund for several families to secure plane tickets out of the country
OTRAH is an organization that helps trans Haitians and wants to expand their services to combat HIV. They don't have a gofundme, instead donations are discussed over email.
There is also this thread of Haitian gofundmes which updates fairly regularly
This document explaining the leadup to where we are now also names some organizations that could use financial support
