A little PSA: Be appreciative for what you have ♥

I’ve been debating posting this for a while now but given an influx of things I just wanted to put it up there. Take it as you will and if you learn something, wonderful, and if you think I’m being pretentious then so be it. 

I’d like to ask that you be appreciative for what you have. This applies to all matters of life but I’m particularly referencing fanfiction in this case. To be more specific; I have been getting an influx of comments recently (and moreso than normal, prompting this post) of readers saying what they wish had happened or what they wanted to see and didn’t, rather than commenting on what the author did choose to include and write.

For example (in summary not verbatim):

I wish X had been a part of this. I wanted to see what he would have done.

Is there going to be a follow up? I want to see the team’s reactions.

I love X character comforting Y but I wish you had written it with Z character instead because I really love those two.

This needs a sequel!

Aww, I’m sad X wasn’t a part of this story. 

What do you think X would have done? 

I think we should see X’s perspective on the events.

I really wish X character had had a bigger role.

Write more!

These comments are across the board; on commissioned fics (which so long as the commissioner got what they wanted that’s all to say on that) to my own original ones. I get it, you really love X and wanted them to be in the fic or have a larger role or for this scene to have happened. But it didn’t. Because it is my fic and that is how I wanted to write it (or what a commissioner asked to be included). Same concept of where I chose to end it or my decision to not write a sequel or continuation. 

I have written over 1.1 million words of VLD fanfiction. That’s a lot. A lot a lot. Please be appreciative of all the things I have written in those words and not the stories I have not. Constantly being asked for certain sequels or stories that I thought about creating but have chosen not to pursue is... exhausting. 

Rather than stating all the things you wished had happened, acknowledge the things that did. Make your comment about what you did like in the fic and save the wish list for talking with your friends or bemoaning silently to yourself. Please don’t make an author feel guilty or bad about all the things we “missed” (we didn’t miss anything) and rather make an author feel appreciated and loved for all the things they did write and include.

My opinion..

Everyone's hating on the Valentine video like come on. I know if wasn't what you wanted and it was kinda simple but they didn't have to do shit for us!! Instead of hating on it and saying how much you hate it in my opinion you should be thanking them for taking time out of their day to make the video. It doesn't always have to be what we want.. sometimes it's about what they want..... I think the video was amazing..
