Ever since Michael had escaped from Marius and his hybrid form had evolved to look more like Marius’s enhanced Lycan form he had been on the run. But he had taken the time to develop his fighting skills to an impressive degree despite it being a relatively short time since his escape. Now he had gathered a small army of Lycans that believed that peace was the answer.
Michael had also encountered supernatural beings such as demons and these encounters had helped him improve his fighting abilities, but they also made him worry about Selene, so his primary goal was to find her. And now he was walking alone down an alleyway in the dark after another unsuccessful search. He was beginning to fear she was dead.
How long has it been since Selene had seen Michael? Despite her ability to walk under the sunlight — a novelty she was certain would wear off eventually, but not for the foreseeable future — the days had all blurred together. Fighting off humans, encountering the occasional immortal, and trying to adjust as best as she can to her new position in the coven.
She hates it. She hates being held responsible for the safety of anyone other than her family. So much so, she fears that she spends more time outside of the coven in the city than inside, where she’s arguably safer.
And a whole lot more bored.
The wind shifts and a familiar scent catches Selene’s attention, making her come to an abrupt stop. It can’t be possible, it can’t — but her senses have never lied to her before.
Selene steps out into the seemingly empty street. She doesn’t need to shout or raise her voice above the ambient sounds of chirping crickets and wind-rustled leaves — she knows full well that even in a crowded room, he would hear her.
“Michael.”
