It's early spring; the grass on our front lawn has suddenly grown up to reach my knees, the flowers have instantly appeared, and there are bees everywhere. We had our first sunny and warm week, it was hot enough to make me sweat.
Strawberries are almost back in season. The shelves are decorated three packs high in every supermarket, they're all on sale every single week. I've been greedily paying my $2.50 for each punnet and eating them with peanut butter. They're not quite there yet, still a little bit tart, but I'd forgotten how good they always taste.
We haven't talked in years, really. You reached out when I was having a bad day, and I made a post asking for anyone to share their joys with me. And we've.. kinda done this forever, haven't we? The time doesn't always align, but when we can it's to share our joys with one another. We were both so sad as kids. Now, way over a decade later, we hold out a hand to say: can I tell you about this thing that made me happy?
I open my punnet of strawberries, they're all so tart and juicy and so incredibly sweet. This changes every year and I know I say it over and over in different months and opposite seasons, but I think this is my favourite time of year. I can't wait to tell you about it when we next catch up over coffee.
