beeyes replied to your audio post: Brian Stokes Mitchell performing “The Impossible...
Step Three: Try to explain to Ailelie who Brian Stokes Mitchell is when she has not heard “Ragtime?!” Ohhhh, I’ve got some work to do this week.
I had never heard "Ragtime" either before I got into a discussion of him earlier! Make her listen to "Make Them Hear You" as soon as possible, oh my god. That song. Brian Stokes Mitchell's voice. Just. *collapses into a puddle of feelings*
And also, he's my very favorite Don Quixote, man. And does a decent Javert as well.

Story I Want to Read: Crosby Retires, for Beeyes (sorry for breaking your boy!)
So my roommate watched a documentary that explained the link between concussions and early onset dementia.
This was my response:
Sidney Crosby retires and no one knows why.
He has been diagnosed with early onset dementia. At first he kept playing, but then he started feeling himself slipping away and he couldn't continue putting himself and the others on the ice in danger.
His teammates are concerned. Mario finds out and agrees not to tell anyone.
So Crosby does fundraisers and some media appearances and keeps his illness a secret. A couple of his teammates are a little more questioning and curious than others.
One, let's say Geno b/c B likes Sid/Malkin and so do I, catches Crosby during a bad moment. He sticks around until Sid regans lucidity and then gets the full story.
Maybe Geno eventually moves in to help Crosby, all while keeping his secrets (even though he thinks it is dumb--the team would want to be there for him and this could also help increase support for concussion research and prevention).
And so a quiet, domestic story with tension created by the secrets kept and lies told. A portrait of life, the moments siezed while awaiting the terrible inevitable.
Note: My only experience with mental illness is visiting my grandfather before he died of Alzheimer's and finding less and less of him each time. Still always him, but also not, horribly not at all.
