How the journey began...

It never failed. I would be on Facebook and I would see a video about the honeybee investigating Colony Collapse Disorder. How could it be possible that one of the most important creatures that God created to keep our plants pollinated could be disappearing? And then I watched a news clip posted by my now wife, of a gentleman from our church who is a master beekeeper talking about beekeeping. I was hooked.

I then found myself watching YouTube Videos on everything beekeeping and Homesteading! It was fascinating, I could watch these little insects working all day long. The building the do with such precision, cleaning of cells, storing pollen and nectar and working together to make the entire hive operate! So then over the next year, I probably looked at anything related to apiculture (The technical term for beekeeping). Whether it was articles in magazines, videos posted on social media or books.

After I married my beautiful wife, we moved down the street from a beekeeper who probably has 50 or so hives you can see from the road. This didn’t help matters! LOL! I would tell my wife how cool it was all the time and say “they have bees”, and “they have bees too”! One day she said back “You know who else keeps bees, Kenny (the friend from church)!” So I told her one day I was gonna jump into beekeeping too and she laughed.

A few months later it was Christmas and Michelle had a big gift that I just couldn’t figure out! What was in that big box? It was killing me to have to wait, but that fantastic day came and I ripped the paper off!! It was exactly what I thought she would NEVER want in our yard, my beehive! I honestly couldn't believe it. Michelle had reached out to Kenny and got a complete list of items needed for a newbie!

That April when the weather got warmer, the first package of bees were delivered and the journey began!
