It's really interesting though how the first couple of times we really see Annie being emotionally manipulative are with Jeff and they're platonic, even using their age gap to make him feel worse. And she quickly learns that she can cry on purpose for that. And I mean, they have that manipulative tendency in common. Aside from anything else about their romantic stuff, I just feel like it would've been so much more interesting and entertaining to explore that as a platonic dynamic, with them falling into habits of manipulating people together, and Annie manipulating Jeff to get stuff out of him, and him feeling annoyed when he realises but also being like, hey I taught her this basically, I'm a bad influence. And then they could work on stopping it together!
