i will literally never be over how peter mills is the one who went to hold matt after he got the news that hallie died. not even gabby could do it, but peter did it without hesitation. even though he felt some type of way towards casey, he went to comfort him when someone he loved and almost married died. everyone else was so shocked and didn’t know what to do, but peter? peter mills’s gut instinct was to put his personal feelings aside and comfort someone who he thought was making his life at work hell on purpose because he was with gabby. peter mills who instantly took in a puppy because it would’ve been drowned otherwise. peter mills who always tried to get people to smile. peter mills who lovingly cooked for everyone. i will never ever ever not love peter mills so much. he was such a great addition to the show. he was empathetic, kind, hard-working, ambitious, caring, determined. i love chicago fire so fucking bad, this show has genuinely made me sob so many times, so many ways, for so many different reasons.

Something about Benny's white whale being a woman is so intriguing to me... the master womanizer being outsmarted and lead on by a woman serial arsonist for yeeeeears is sending me.

Have I said how bad i want another arsonist to come terrorize CFD/OFI... We need a villain that's not CFD brass, Wolf Entertainment, or NBC with these budget cuts....

As little girls, we all dream of our happily ever after. Corporations like Disney drive those thoughts and feelings home with their stories of princesses that find their true love. We dream of big weddings, our prince coming to our rescue at our lowest times. When we are young, the possibilities and dreams seem endless. Now, as an adult, I see the world from a much different perspective. Maybe I always have, given that Benny Severide is my father, so happily ever afters always seem to be a pipe dream, but maybe there is some truth to it after-all.

I walk up to Kelly’s door and give a quick knock, attempting to keep Louie on my hip and juggle the food with the other. Kelly insisted on having dinner, claiming he had something he wanted to talk to me about. Even though I insisted that this wasn’t a good time given that I have Louie while Matt is busy with an alderman event, Kelly had also insisted that this was important and couldn’t wait.

When Kelly opened the door and saw my struggles, he immediately took Louie from my arms. “Hey little man! Are you being good for Y/n?” Kelly asks Louie, stepping aside and turning him upside down while tickling his tummy.

Louis laughed loudly, bringing a smile to both Severide sibling’s faces. “Yes!” He squeals, wiggling around in Kelly’s grip.

You smile, leaning against the door frame and letting the two bond for a moment. “Alright. Alright. Put him down. He needs to breathe.” You chuckle, smiling fondly at the pair as you walk past, making a beeline for the kitchen. “Foods gonna get cold. Go wash up!” You call, not bothering to turn back and honestly praying Kelly listened to you.

You hear the door shut and Kelly mutter “Yes mom.” To you before both boys chuckle and Kelly proposes a race to the bathroom. You shake your head fondly and wash your own hands in the kitchen sink before grabbing some plates and silverware to set out on the table.

By the time you have everything situated, Kelly and Louie walk back into the room, Louie bumping into Kelly and giggling loudly as Kelly fake stumbles. Once they finally make it back to the table, you prepare Louie’s plate and hand it to him before preparing your own.

“So, is this a dinner table conversation or an after dinner conversation?” You ask as you finish plating your food and watch as Kelly plates his.

Kelly shrugs, but doesn’t look up as he speaks. “Well, I have news.” Kelly says. He hears how you shift and put your fork down, so he’s quick to reassure you. “It’s not bad. Calm down sis.” Kelly placates, placing a hand over one of yours briefly. “I’m gonna be donating my bone marrow to someone who needs it.” Kelly says, continuing to make his plate.

You sit in stunned silence. You weren’t expecting that, but you did realize it could be worse. “Okay.” You draw out, sitting back in your chair. “That’s awesome and all, but how did this even come up? When is this happening? I have so many questions.” You say, shaking your head and chuckling at the amusement on Kelly’s face.

“Well, Clarke said someone needed help and I’m a match. I think it’s time I did something useful with my life.” Kelly says, shrugging and taking a bite of his dinner.

You shake your head, disbelief on your face. “Kelly. You fight fires for a living. You run in and save people when they are at their lowest. When others would run away, you run toward. You’re already doing something useful.”

“But I’ve done a lot of really crappy things in my life.” Kelly says, placing his fork down and turning to look at you. “I don’t want to be like dad.”

You shake your head and reach for Kelly’s hand. “You will never, and I mean NEVER be like dad. You are so much better.” You say, tears welling in your eyes. “You helped raise me and now look. I’m a paramedic and I have the most amazing boy and most amazing Fiancé. You-.”

Kelly quickly interrupted you. “Hold up. He finally asked?” Kelly says, grinning at you like the Cheshire Cat.

You pause, quickly realizing your slip up. “Yeah. He did. Uh, we are considering getting married and adopting Louie.” You say, smiling at the small boy who is blissfully oblivious to the conversation happening in front of him as he eats his dinner and watches a show on your phone.

“Finally!” Kelly laughs, standing to pull you into a hug. “It took him long enough!”

The rest of the evening turns from Kelly’s announcement to yours. All talk of Benny Severide pushed to the side as you and your brother talk about the future.

Once you get home, you hurry to get out of the car and meet Matt next to Louie’s door, wrapping your arms around his neck and pulling him in for a kiss.

Matt smiles as you pull away. “Well, hello beautiful.” Matt whispers, pecking your forehead.

“Hey there handsome.” You reply, grinning at the man in front of you. This is what dreams were made of. Kissing your fiancé as the snow drifted down softly and your child sleeping in the back seat.

“I’ll carry him up. Get inside before you freeze.” Matt says, kissing you once more and smacking your butt as you turn to do as he says.

You stop just inside the doorway and watch Matt. He carefully unbuckles Louie and lifts him into his arms. The child stirs, but Matt is quick to shush him and bounce him, placing a soft kiss to Louie’s forehead. You marvel at the exchange, knowing Matt was terrified of the thought of being a parent for Louie at first, but now they have such a strong bond.

You smile as Matt carefully walks up the steps and through the door. You help him take off Louie’s coat and jacket, leaving the items by the door with your own. You then follow Matt further into the apartment and watch as he lays Louie down in his bed, tucking the boy under his blanket and laying his favorite stuffy in his arms before Matt steps out, making sure to leave a night light on.

“You are such a great dad.” You muse, wrapping your arms around Matt again, pulling him down onto the couch. “I can’t wait to marry you and adopt Louie.”

Matt smiles and shifts so that you are on his lap. “I can’t wait either. To spend forever with you and him. Our little family.”

You kiss him once more before laying your head on his chest. You listen as he talks about the aldermen event, enjoying the way his chest vibrates. He knows your falling asleep, but he keeps talking until you go limp in his arms, and then Matt carries you to bed.

The next day, you are on shift with Matt and Kelly. Normally Cindy Hermann watched Louie for you, but most of the household has come down with the flu, so you have no choice but to bring Louie with you. Louie loves the attention he’s getting. His aunts and uncles at the firehouse spoil him rotten. The chief has noise cancelling headphones for when Louie goes to sleep and already has a plan for calls.

During the evening, the whole house is eating dinner, besides Truck since they are out on a call. Gallo has made Louie’s favorite, so the room is pretty low energy as the child quietly eats his dinner. That is until Benny Severide walks into the room.

Kelly is the first to spot your father and he stands, immediately coming to stand between you, Louie, and your father. “What the hell are you doing here?” Kelly asks, causing you to turn around and look to see who he could possibly be speaking to.

“Dad?” You ask, standing next to Kelly and also blocking Louie. You hear Slyvie talking to Louie, trying to get him to leave the room, but they hate pretty far from any exit as Louie was sitting in the middle of the table.

“Is that the boy your fostering?” Benny asks, trying to get a look at Louie, but having a hard time as you and Kelly block his line of sight and Sylvie has him tucked into her side.

“What do you want dad?” Kelly asks, stepping closer to your father and putting an arm out to shield you. Benny doesn’t look to be in his right mind.

“I heard that my daughter is getting married and adopting a kid. I think I have every right to hear it from her.” Benny says, practically yelling as he stumbles forward toward you and Kelly.

“I think it’s time for you to go.” Boden says from behind you, coming around you and Kelly and putting a hand on Benny’s shoulder.

“Get your hands off me Wallace!” Benny yells, pushing at Boden, causing the chief to stumble back slightly, but Kelly rights him.

Now, you are furious. “Sylvie. Get Louie out of here.” You mutter, turning and looking at your partner who nods and does as she’s asked. Stella following close behind. Once Louie is out of the room, you turn on your father. “You deserve nothing! You may be my biological father, but you will never be my dad. You lost that privilege a long time ago. Kelly may still try with you, but I’m done. I’m happy and you can’t either accept it or not, but that’s your problem, not mine.” You say, shaking as Kelly puts an arm around your shoulders. You have angry tears streaming down your face. “Now leave and never come back! I don’t want you here and I don’t want you around Louie!” You say, shaking your head and marching toward him, shoving him toward the door.

“You can’t talk to your father like that!” Benny roars, raring back to smack you, but Boden catches his hand first.

“Leave my firehouse. You are disturbing my medics and my firefighters and I won’t tolerate it. Don’t make me call PD and have them throw you in the drunk tank.” Boden says, turning Benny’s arm around his back as he pushes him toward the door.

You shake, nearly collapsing onto the floor in a panic at the events that just occurred. Benny never laid a hand on you or Kelly, but an ex of your had physically abused you and you just shut down. Kelly caught you as you went down, picking you up and bringing you into his quarters.

“Hey hey hey. Shhh. Look at me. Open your eyes.” Kelly whispered, clutching your upper arms lightly in his hands. “Your safe. I have you. Nobody is going to hurt you or Louie, I promise.” Kelly soothed, rubbing his hands up and down your arms.

You nodded, showing your understanding, and tried to take some calming breaths. “I-I need M-Matt.” You whispered, rocking slightly back and forth. “Can you pplease check on Louie. He’s safe, r-right?” You asked, looking your brother in the eyes and practically pleading with him.

Kelly nodded. “Yeah, Stella and Sylvie have him. He’s right outside in the bunk room. You wanna see him?” Kelly offers, smiling slightly as you start to wind down.

You nod and stand, looking through the blinds. Your met with Stella and Sylvie playing with Louie on one of the bunks. His trucks and cars are scattered all over the bed, the two women racing their cars along the bed and around Louie, making the young boy giggle.

“See. He’s safe. You are safe. Matt should be on his way back. Everything is okay.” Kelly says, hugging you from behind when you lean into his chest.

You nod, watching your future son with his aunts. “Thanks Kel.” You whisper, turning and burying your face into Kelly’s chest.

Kelly kisses the top of your head and hugs you back tightly. “Anytime Y/n. You know I’m always here for you.”

ok ok ok watching fire 1.17 and realizing that when griffin asked matt how his dad died it was set up almost exactly the same way as when mills asked severide to talk to benny because he wanted to find out how his dad died. both of them said they’d spent their whole lives wondering😭
