• synopsis { Wallace Boden, recently retired from active duty, now spends his time at the CFD History Museum and running a mentorship program for new recruits. When a local journalist, Celeste, begins documenting the history of Black firefighters in Chicago, her interviews with Boden unlock memories of his early days-and a personal loss he's never come to terms with. Through shared moments, conversations, and community events, Boden and Celeste develop a deep, quiet connection. "Ms. Leota?" The woman's name pierced through her thoughts. Her abundance of creativity came to an abrupt halt. She shifted her gaze from her journal to follow the source of the nasally voice.

"Yes." She deadpanned, closing her fountain pen inside of her hardcover journal. Her piercing dark brown eyes bored into the young woman's hazel eyes.

"I'm Genevieve. I can take to you to the Historical Archive room now." Genevieve replied with her hands neatly folded in front of her. The older woman placed her journal into the Coach tote bag resting on her shoulder. She rose from the bench, gesturing for Genevieve to lead the way.

Genevieve wore a bright smile as she turned in the direction they were headed. The older woman followed behind Genevieve when she began their journey through the corridors of the Fire Museum.

"So, how are you today, Ms. Leota?" Genevieve inquired, attempting to fill the silence between them. Genevieve received a brief glance from the woman behind her. Silence caused a slight grimace to morph into her expression.

Genevieve hesitated, a battle took hold of her mind. "So, I hear you're a journalist. Are you working on an article?" Her enthusiasm radiated from her body language.

The woman frowned, shifting her gaze to Genevieve longer than before. She was almost offended. Though, she remembered what she was taught growing up, it's not who you are it's what you answer to. She decided against her worse judgment to respond and make a fool of the young woman before her.

The pair continued their journey in silence. A silence seemingly only uncomfortable for Genevieve.

A vibration rattled the woman's purse causing her to reach inside with a quickness. By the time her hand made contact with the cellphone, the vibrations ceased. When she realized that she missed the call, she sighed heavily. She felt a pinch of irritation crawl up her chest.

The feeling subsided when a singular vibration in her palms captured her attention. She glanced in front of her making sure her path was clear before checking her message.

Her cellphone held her focus as she followed Genevieve almost absentmindedly. She noticed Genevieve round a corner from her peripheral and attempted to follow aimlessly. As she continued she heard young voices call out.

"Watch out!" A young child warned followed by multiple little voices calling out "Look mister" and "Turn around".

Just as she looked up, her body collided with another. She gasped in surprise. Her cellphone clattered on the linoleum floor as she stumbled back. A strong pair of arms reached back to be certain she wouldn't plummet onto the ground as well.

The stranger spins to stabilize her. Her shock gradually subsided as her brown eyes catch the deep round pair staring back at her. She thoroughly gazed up at the man before her. The furrow in his light brows softened as he stared back at her.

He was tall. Short, cropped, dark brown hair. Mustache above his full lips. Squared jawline. Nubian nose. Strong build. Bit of a dad bod. Mahogany toned skin. Very attractive. Familiar.

"Ma'am, are you alright?" He asked.

That voice. Deep but silky. Concerned with an undertone of authority. Also, familiar.

"Uh, yeah. Fine." She replied slightly winded. "Good." He paused, removing his large hands from her waist. One's she hadn't realized remained.

"I'm sorry. I wasn't paying attention." He continued, placing a hand on his chest.

"Neither was I. Guess we both need to watch where we're going." She joked halfheartedly. Her eyes trailed to the man's uniform.

Black tie. White button up. Black slacks. Leather square toed shoes. The bugles on his sharp collar caught her analytic gaze. 'Boden' read his name tag above the right pocket. 'Deputy District Chief' badge above the pocket on the left.

"You're Wallace Boden." She claimed with a smirk, watching the furrow in his brow return. He stared down at me, a bit more than confused. He looked utterly stunned.

"Have we met?" He inquired, tilted his head slightly. "No." She replied, lacking hesitation. "But you're quite famous in the media." She added with confidence laced in her tone.

She remembers the group of children who were following him. She turns to them, lowering herself to their level.

"Do you boys and girls know what this Chief is known for?" Her inquiry received various head shakes and responses of 'No'. "Wanna' know how cool he is?" She continued with a smile. The group of young children agreed with excitement.

"Okay, settle down." She laughed softly. "Chief Boden is mostly known for his leadership role. But he used to have his own firehouse." She nodded as the children exclaimed in amazement.

"And while the other firemen rode in the big, loud fire trucks and ambulances, he had his own special car. It had bright lights and loud sirens too." The children laughed and giggled at her imitation of the sirens with a silly expression.

"He led one of the most loyal firehouses in all of Chicago." She said in a newfound seriousness. "He taught many firefighters how to be brave and honorable. Just like you boys and girls." She smiled, tickling the child closest to her. Their sheepish giggles caused her to chuckle.

"Men and women are fierce leaders and soldiers because they served under this fearless hero." She pointed, shifting her gaze up to the man adjacent to her. Wallace listened in awe as she spoke to the children.

He held an inquisitive gaze with the woman whose name he had yet to learn. Although, she seemed to know quite a bit about him. She rose from her crouched position and held his gaze with a prideful expression.

"Here you go, miss." A child's voice called out. She shifted her attention back down to a kid amongst the group. A small boy was holding up her cellphone. "Oh, thank you so much, handsome." She smiled brightly, glancing at Genevieve watching the encounter with adoration from afar.

"It was nice talking to you boys and girls. You all be good, okay? Don't give Chief Boden a hard time." She concluded, playfully whispering the last part as if it were a secret.

After waving farewell to the group of young children, she makes her way over to Genevieve who happened to still be gleaming at the previous moment. "That was very nice of you." Genevieve claimed. "Thank you, Genevieve." She nods while they continue on their way.

They travel the remaining distance before arriving at a door designed with a golden plate. It read 'Historical Archives'. She felt a sense of contentment flood her system.

Finally, she could dive into history. Reveal stories untold. And make art from events of the past.

Having Boden back for 13x18 only made me realize how much I've been missing him! 🥹 And the episode was a great one too, quite unlike anything they'd done before. I'm also glad that Boden and Pascal came to an understanding at the end and that there's no beef between them. They may have very different styles as leaders, but they are both capable and have 51's interests at heart. Though I have to say I miss Boden's warmth compared to Pascal's sometimes-brusque manners.

I don't have any love for Benny Severide at all

I maintain that the best advice he ever gave Kelly was in S1 about how, if Kelly had moved to Madrid and left CFD, he would be paralyzed.

Someteims in this instance, he was talking to Mcloud and might be the next chief of 51. I can't help but think that he was just pissed at Boden for some reason. I still don't understand, or was it him trying to be close to Kelly?

LIke do we know why Benny retired from CFD? Was it a medical leave or do they do mandatory retirement on anyone 65 or over, even if they're doing a adminstrative job? Because my understanding is that Boden, Girssom, and Benny were in the academy class/ around the same time/all are around the same age.

Also I can't stop thinking how similar the leadership transition happens in both Chicago Fire and FBI MOST WANTED.

We have in the beginning an wise and calm leader, like a Father Figure in both Wallace Boden and Jess Lacroix.

Than they handle comander to guys with a very edged personality, like powerful extremely male presence, like the older brother fully of tricks and plays like the cool kid around in Dom Pascal and Remy Scott

I can't stop wonder how this parallel works for me.
